I was just wondering with pretty much the diminished or lack of buying in the gecko market how many are only breeding select projects and which ones are you focusing on?

Well since I only have one breeding pair, they are the selected ones for me! I will be producing another clutch of LVAPs.

I am working with my blizzard male and my blazing blizzard female right now. With the demise of my blizz female, that kinda cut down for me. Next year though, I have those killer females lined up. Still working on the males. I know the ones I want, just gotta wait until after Christmas to get them!

I dont have a large collection of leos. Despite that I still have a dozen babies from last season that Im having trouble even giving away.

Which puts me in a bit of a pickle. I REALLY enjoy breeding them. Its fun! I like watching the babies come out of the egg, they are so spiffy. I especially like the ones with 'tudes that bark at ya. I had one only halfway out who did that. Gotta respect that fortitude. I like seeing the different patterns. Even normals are all a little different. I also have some weird hets and poss hets so I never know whats gonna pop out. I had a pair that I didnt even know were het for albino. The seller didnt know either. Out popped an albino. I called the guy I got them from.

Me: I just got an albino
Seller: Not possible, those werent hets
Me: Im looking at it right now
Seller: Cant be
Me: Well then I am the luckiest SOB on earth

LOL! I know they are hets since later they produced another albino. One, ok maybe could have been a one in a million miracle. Two? No way.

But back to the original discussion. Im torn on what to do. This is a hobby for me. Its not my income. I dont *need* to produce leopard geckos. But I *like* to produce leopard geckos. Then I gotta stand on my head to try to find homes for them.

Its not about money. If I knew I could sell normals for even $10 Id produce a platoon of them just because I enjoy it. Cant even do that. Locally, the pet stores dont want them since they must have some sort of contract with whoever they get their reptiles from or they dont carry herps at all. No one wants to buy them online since why pay $40 to ship a $10 lizard? Its a quandry.

And I dont mind housing and caring for these guys. But I cant have 100 of them, just dont have the space.

I found a home for one. Gonna be a Xmas present for 2 lucky kids. Freebie. Fine by me just give it a good home or Im sending Nor after you. :machinegun:

I thought about getting more high end stuff that actually might have a chance of selling. My stuff is rather common. My tangerines are just average. No where near what you see nowadays.

So Im not exactly sure what Im doing yet. Better make a decision soon though the season shes a'comin'!

I'll only be breeding a couple females last year was a crappy season for me and the way economy is going I don't think it would be worth producing 400 geckos I have a bunch of geckos, I could easily produce a couple hundred geckos.
Good luck to everyone else just feel like sharing what I'm doing.

that's the same thought here. I could potentially produce well over a 1000 but will keep it under 300 hopefully. As long as I dont get to shtct crazy again this year.

I had a bunch of leos at one point, switched out for some diff species. I still keep I think two males and maybe 4-5 females, plenty of babys. I haven't had trouble selling them at shows though. I just go with low prices cause they're fun to breed. Raise some of the babies up because I think its fun to watch them grow, then just make overly friendly deals with teenagers or people just starting the hobby who want something nicer than a normal. I have blizzards, super snows, reverse stripes, and some others I don't even remember...

I will be doing a little more selective breeding this year but not really because of the economy or anything. I think it's a natural progression to get more selective each year. That being said I will still be producing a rather large about of leos this coming season. Mostly because I have a lot of project stuff that I'm shooting for and the odds call for me to have larger breeder groups in order to hit certain morphs. Luckily although this season was a drop off from past seasons I was able to move most of the stuff I produced.

As for the projects I'm working on I've got too many to list them all but some of them are Bell Blazing Blizzards, Super Snow Blazing Blizzards, Tangerines, Snow Raptors, Novas, Dreamsickles, Black Holes, B.E.E., Super Snow Albinos (Bell, Tremper, and Rainwater), Raining Red Stripe Enigmas, Rainwater Enigmas, Firewater and Firewater Enigmas, Bold Stripes, Red Stripes. The list goes on and on.

I don't plan on producing more then 300 to 400 geckos however. And most of those will be low end stuff that tends to move decently at shows.

I think I just may have found a home for a bunch of them.

Funny how that works out. Right when you're at the end of your rope a new reason to keep on swingin'.

I sell a good portion of mine at the reptile shows we do. I'm trying to limit who gets bred this year, but sometimes that changes. LOL. I have to determine who (out of 2 supposedly patternless males and 2 het albino females) threw the blizzard! There are some genetics going on there and now I HAVE to figure out who is who! hehehe.

You already know the answer for us. I can't even remember half of what Lolo has out there.
