Hey Pine snake breeders. How long do you guys brumate. I gave up my female Black Pine on a breeder loan last year. He Brumated her for 5 months. No eggs, did we brumate to long ? Any Ideas ? This year I have a breeder male of my own. Shes not going anywhere. Thanks

When I kept colubrids I brumated them for 3 months total. That includes the 2 week slow cool down. I dont think you need more than that. Some folks even go 2 months.

Ive bred corn snakes with no brumation at all.

5 months sounds like an awfully long time. The female may have lost too much weight. Or, it might have had nothing to do with that at all. Maybe the male was the problem.

Still, I see no reason for such a long brumation when 8-12 weeks will do the job.

Oh, I suppose I should mention that I did work with pits. Northern pines, patternless pines, black pines, bullsnakes and albino gophers. Same thing, 3 months. Didint have any problems with them. They actually bred very aggressively. Especially the northerns. Savages. I used to call my pines my "North American Pythons" :D

The male bred his girl. Chased mine around for a little while, then lost interest. She is a big girl. She's the one that gave Norsmis his bite in the thigh. He ( Norsmis ) brings out the tiger in the ladies. LOL

Hmmm. Hard to say. Maybe the male was tuckered out after the first female? Maybe your female wasnt "ready" for a male? Who knows. These things happen.

Regardless, if it were me Id cut down on the brumation.

Im not surprised the snake bit Nor. Not surprised at all. Maybe you should bring her back over for a visit? :D :D :D

You two funny GIs.....

Buck and I talked about this the other night on the phone and I agree, 5 months was WAY too long in my opinion. I cool most of my colubrids for 60 days nad bring em back up, including the pits.

Seems like a mighty long time to cool down....

5 months may have been to long but I think you may have had issues when you pulled him out getting to warm...from what I understand the warm part is what kills the sperm.

Yes, 11 eggs all hatched. I am going to go 75 days. I have no experience with Pines and appreciate the help from everybody.

May just be her then, given them another go...if it doesn't work out again then I would hold back or find another male to try with her to see if it is that combo or her.

You got to figure the pines around here and you are in burmation from at least october through march/april at the earliest, not saying it is healthy but that is a long time
