View Full Version : Banned
Jeepguy 12-02-2010, 09:53 PM Is it possible to add why a person is banned somewhere on their profile? Just having banned under their name does not tell you why. I am saying this for more of the new comers as I realize you guys are pretty accepting in letting people speak their mind. I think the extreme conditions where someone is banned may warrant an explanation and set a precedent for others.
JChandler 12-02-2010, 10:09 PM The person that is banned knows and gets it as a message when they try to log in, as for why best thing I can suggest is to read the last posts they made which you can search under the statistics tab within their profile.
boarama 12-02-2010, 10:22 PM This is just my opinion. I think if the owner of a site (any site) or a Mod wants to discuss why a person is banned in an open forum, that to some degree is o.k. It should not be put onto their user profile as to why. It's o.k. to have the word banned under their name, but if you use some common sence, you should not even need to worry about being banned.
This site is really pretty good about what they let you say. I have pushed some buttons here before myself, and never recieved an infraction. I have racked up quite a few infraction points on another reptile site. So have fun, and think before you hit the submit button.
BryGuy 12-02-2010, 10:27 PM If you get banned from here it is extremely obvious you needed to be. Search for their posts and look at the last ones.

Jeepguy 12-02-2010, 11:07 PM I get all of this and that is what I do. I was just saying maybe for people newer to how things work a directory or tool may be helpful. Like I said this place pretty much lets you speak your mind and that is what I love.

You make a good point.
Where is the line they crossed? :dunno:

I really don't see why we should bring more attention to people that didn't fit in here. What you are talking about would turn into a hall of fame or a martyr club. Why give them the benefit of living on forever? Out of sight, out of mind is the best thing for these people.
Learning what is accepted and not accepted is really easy for newbies. We rarely ban anyone immediately, usually people get quite a few infractions or warnings before they get banned. Most of that happens behind the scenes and most people on the site don't even know they were issued.

i just had it once that i missunderstood why someone is banned. that was jas. i thought he was banned for this shit he talked about a dead kid. but he was banned for cursing/ offensing another member.
otherwise u most of the time get it, why a person is banned if u read the last post.
as for this site let u speak. for american standarts i really can speak my mind here. in germany its a bit easier because we dont have these nc-13 (???) guidelines. i can say the f word without gettin edited, but its ok.
if i set this site against other american sites im really free (i mean i got infractions for the word shit... on other sites)
but basically i dont think its a bad idea to make it like with the medals. u have a medal and u can see the reason why he got it.
thats with banned werent bad ether.

I am a member of at least a dozen reptile sites, a couple of truck sites, and a couple of cb radio sites. This is the only site that I know of that lets people use language like that. I also wonder into a couple of other forum sites as a non member, and I haven't seen any words that some might consider profanity. I think you really have to do something bad to get kicked out of here.

a new member owes it to themself, and those that provide the forum, the acclimation time to understand what they are walking into. walking in here (or anyplace really) with lips-a-flappin' without getting a feel for the level of acceptabilty first, is a sure-fire recipe for disaster. for the most part, this place is occupied by adult members... we aren't going to tell you now what your mama should have told you years ago.
there are a bunch of sub-adult members operating within our space that get it, there's no real excuse if you don't.

There is no precedent to set, people get banned for breaking the club rules....
I don't think it is needed, to have to write out a detailed explanation of why someone got banned for good.... why waste any more time on someone that isn't coming back?
If newcomers need some sort of guide when they get here, they can read the club rules, takes about two minutes.... gives you a feel for the site right from the word go.
Saltydog88 12-03-2010, 06:16 PM I read the rules first and read a lot of posts to get a feel for the site. I worked my way in with responses to posts, started some new threads, posted some pics, and joined a few of the community groups. So far, I haven't been axed yet. :yessir:

At the cost of looking like a kiss ass I had my finger on the quote button before I got to BT. LOL I agree with you 100% and in sitting back and thinking about what everyone has said maybe making it easy isn't the best way to have intelligent conversation and that is why this place is so much fun. I was honestly thinking of it as a way to show how outlandish, over the top, or just jackassed you have to be to get banned from here. This being said it may make more people with not the best social skills LOL more willing to post. I can say I have only seen 2 banned members since I have been here.
MikeCurtin 12-03-2010, 09:29 PM Hey, so who wants to see if we can push Gary over the edge? :lmao:

I also don't see a problem with it being expressed and my reason for posting. Like not even in detail, but simple terms. Vulgar, personal attacks, or threats of personal injury just know what type of person they are.

ZombieTom 12-03-2010, 10:12 PM From what it seems like on the site its not what you say, but how you say it.
You could have any opinion on any topic, but if you blast off like an a** you wont stick around long.

Kuehnemund 12-03-2010, 11:25 PM I am not an adult on this forum, but I can tell when to speak and when to keep my mouth shut, I know adults that just dont understand that....I think that is why they get banned.
Or they simply have zero consideration for others and are selfish people, make fun of people, and use offensive language.
I havn't been on the forum for that long, but I definately respect the open arms from the people who run this forum, after all we are here to express our passon, and our respect for this hobby, not to use profanity or disrespect others.

Very well put.
And for those of us with children wouldn't you want to know why individuals have gotten banned from one place and use that name elsewhere. Especially if your kid is talking to them. Google is great.

Google is good for that to, you just have to dig deeper to find out what you are looking for sometimes...why the idea is good you will end up giving those that were banned some twisted badge they will attempt to wear. It will turn the entire thing into a 3 ring circus.
Some of you guys don't get or understand the pg-13 thinking, my take is that it is about the youth that is out there that wants to interact on more than just a basic level....I remember as a kid trying to learn about reptiles and only finding the basic information about habitats from the local library, imagine if you had a place you could go to find real information and ask questions, be in conversations above the basic care sheet in a not so formal setting but still a place where people took your questions seriously in an adult manner. I would have eaten this up back then and that is what I feel like we are trying to create,
