View Full Version : You'd think ....
Tosha 12-18-2008, 03:27 PM You'd think since everyday for the past week or so I've been looking out my snakeroom window to this:

I'd be seeing a lot of this:

But sadly I'm seeing more of this:

And what is this????

Looks like this will be the ying to last years yang. Doesn't look like we will be seeing a lot of clutches -- but that's ok -- I really am only looking forward to three clutches and they look like they are on their way (knock on wood).
NoahHart 12-18-2008, 03:33 PM Oh theres plenty of time left. There is still months left of prime breeding time. At least the Hypo is cuddling. Hope they all come around for you. What is the female in with the Mojave, and whats the first pair?
luciddream 12-18-2008, 04:14 PM Atleast you didn't find a big female trying to drown a male in the waterbowl by laying on him while he was curled up in there like I found last night. Damn big assed girl had him almost completely submerged, he just managed to find a small spot for his nostrils to stick out of the water. It's still pretty early, too. They may hook up still for ya.

That's why I only offer small water dishes for breeding pairs.... it would be horrible to walk in one morning and find your fave male drowned by accident.

Yeah, I usually have smaller bowls, but I was cleaning them and that was the one that was left. Won't make that mistake again, though.

I know still early but I know my girls and if they aint breeding by now they aint gunna.
First Pic is Harry and Fluffy (YB x Normal) my sons project.
Second Pic Mojo x Normal
Third Pic Hypo x 3000 gram het that hasn't gone in the past three years so I'm really not expecting much this year either.

 Small bowls -- or dump the water while pairing them up and refill when you separate (trick Kevin mentioned - least I think it was Kevin).
Larry 12-18-2008, 04:41 PM Don't go giving up on me just yet Tosha it's only December and a lot of people haven't even started breeding yet.. Hang in there we've got all the time in the world..

Yup, small bowls.... no wasting water that way.
Yeah it is still very early.... doesn't mean things can't get frustrating though....lol

That's what I was thinking. I didn't know anyone was as impatient as me. :)
DanielA989 12-18-2008, 05:19 PM Yea I know the feeling. I have a male or two I am still trying to get going. One's too fat and one's to small. Don't give up we have a long way to go like Larry said. Good Weather don't get here until Jan-Feb
FloridaHogs 12-18-2008, 05:23 PM Lots of time, my only two clutches last year hatched in Aug and Sept....both my girls were late to go.
Coldthumb 12-18-2008, 09:02 PM bleh, quitter :nono:
I got three words for you: Negative Ion Generator  worth a try anyway
Coldthumb 12-18-2008, 09:03 PM ..and that hypo is a stunner!
constrictorkeeper 12-18-2008, 09:22 PM good lookin' critters tosha.
hope they come around for 'ya.
ck
I'll keep my fingers crossed that they come around for you.
xanaxez 12-19-2008, 01:47 AM yea dont give up yet, you still have time. you could be like me and not even have anything to even attempt at breeding lmao i still have a couple of years to go unless i pick up a few close to breeding size for next year.
Tosha 12-19-2008, 01:16 PM Thanks for the well wishes all -- I know patience patience patience but I work with limited weather out here and it's frustrating cause I know that if we were having a wet winter they'd be doing more breeding but we aren't and when we get some and they don't bother to bump uglies it's a bit discouraging.
But it is what it is. I will continue to live vicariously through the BLBC :yourock:

We only purposely paired 1-2 pairs, we really won't start pairing until
mid Jan-early Feb!
There's plenty of time left!
I was still getting locks in May and June last year and hatched a clutch in Sept!
papaK 12-19-2008, 05:23 PM I'm startin on January 1st just like last year.... We've got a couple snow storms in columbus this year already but it'll really pick up in january/february. In the mean time i've been givin everyone plenty of rats and hopin for the best this season. Good luck to everyone!
grunt_11b2007 12-22-2008, 06:01 PM I've been pairing since Oct 1.. Everyone has been locking up good until Dec hit.. It seems like no one wants to do the do now!! I don't get it.. My females are finally starting to slow down on eating too.. I hope they pick back up with the breeding.. Who knows with balls.. LOL

I think you started to early. ........ :D
Now your mission is to keep them all cool enough until their season kicks in for you down there (we are talking about South Carolina here folks! :D...Hell it was 61F here three nights ago..then went to the 20's for a few days..and now it's in the 40's )Keep their previous works fertile,in case the males dud out on you for the rest of the season....otherwise you get duds and slugs.

I know you have a humidfier in there...and i can't help but think that a Negative Ion Generator(the acronym is unacceptable LOL)wouldn't help you manipulate them in that warm and dry climate you have to deal with during breeding season....Water on one side, ions on the other..throw in a fan and youv'e got weather..maybe..lol
It does fool the sense of smell into thinking it has rained...just turn it down a tad if it smells of burnt air :)

At this point I'm willing to try anything -- where would I go about getting myself one of them Neg. Ion Gens?
As patient as I am -- it is disheartening -- since I don't really want to produce more than 50 offspring per season I pretty much put all of my eggs in a select few baskets so to speak -- when they don't cooperate it's frustrating and then I have to decide whether to wait it out and pray or go ahead and try other less exciting pairings.
147BOAS 12-27-2008, 09:25 PM Tosha very nice
Good luck Tosha and I'd say I would love to look out my snake room window during breeding season and see green!
Tosha 12-31-2008, 02:03 PM Well I've gone ahead and bought the ion generator -- I'm getting desperate. Nobody but the Mojo wants to breed anymore, tho I did find my albino and het finally locked this morning. My Cinni only seems to want to breed one girl this season and shes only two so I have my doubts she'll go, my Pin hasn't locked with anyone since his feeding accident. Arrrrrg.
I know - it's early, I know - I need to be patient - I know I know I know. Bangs head on desktop.
JChandler 12-31-2008, 02:35 PM Good luck with the ion generator, keep us updated on how it works...
Hang in there I knowat times its hard to do...I have a Pewter male that has bred ONCEand now wants nothing to do wit hth e females...I took him for a car ride last week and still nothing...I guess ill learn patience..:yessir:

I remove water dishes when animals are paired, so that if anyone develops an RI, they aren't sharing the same water - just a tip passed on to me from Kevin and Kara! ;)
I rotate males in with females for 3 days and then 4 days or longer of rest.
Tosha, I feel your pain - I'm not seeing as much action as I did last year, but it IS still early!

Tosha, a few tricks I tried last year when I had a few reluctant pairings - sperm plug of a different male on the back of a female, misting the pair with water when putting them together, putting them together the day BEFORE a weather front rolls in, if a male is going with more than one female, I put two of his females with him at the same time (that one yielded the best results), and putting the male in when the female was in shed. I also took fresh shed from another male and put it in with a breeding pair.
As I said, if the male is going with more than one female, put two of his girls in with him at the same time. That worked very well for me.
And just a note, I didn't do ALL of those things at the same time! LOL Just tried on different pairs. The first lock I got from my pastel and one of his girls was when she was in full blue.
