View Full Version : RepAid?
KordeksKritters 12-19-2008, 09:40 AM Ok, this product has been advertised on a few forums, including KS, as the all new herbal cure for parasites and crypto. Have you guys heard of it yet? I know that it was on geckoforums.net (I think that's the address), and it is being heavily advertised on Reptastic.com. The thing that bothers me the most about that is this guy's way of preying on a forum of mostly inexperienced young keepers. I mod over there, so I try to keep an eye out on the 'little ones' as I call them.
Here is the link to the post on Reptastic. I am eagerly awaiting his reply. The link to the gecko forum ad/post is in this thread as well.

My first question would be what herbs are in it. Get a specific breakdown. I don't care about what THEY claim I want to see what they are putting in the bottle.
KordeksKritters 12-19-2008, 10:26 AM The list of ingredients is here http://www.chameleonsnorthwest.com/reptaid4.htm
The interesting one that I find is this...
Pau D’arco - South American herb that is used for parasites and fungus. Also used for dry cough, anti-inflammatory and blood cleansing. We also use this herb for it’s anti-bacterial properties. Large doses or continued use of this product can cause miscarriage in pregnant animals
Now, isn't this supposed to INCREASE the "libedo" in animals? Continued use causes miscarriage in pregnant animals? Doesn't he mean gravid reptiles? And is miscarriage really the proper term (I don't think so)....
And this company has also made a product formulated to rid dogs of parvo...Parvaid. I did a Google search and came up with this..
http://www.parvobuster.com/
So you don't have to take your dog to the vet for parvo now? What kind of insane claims is this company who manufactures these products making? Same basic claims that Reptaid is making, just for reptiles...
The more I read about this, the more sickened I get.

i have heard of the parvobuster from a couple of vets and have been mixed reviews on it. from what i gather some like it because it reduces the amount of pups coming in and having to be quarantined and given special care so it also reduces the use of vets and staff. the mixed reviews where that of it would also be taking money away from vet offices. now i am not sure if it has been aproved by the goverment because i havent read into it at all but i did hear out of a vets mouth that it does work but i have not ever tried it because i do not own a dog and if i did i still think id rather send it to a vet and be cared for and looked after untill its better since i do not know what side effects or anything else the product may cause.
BryonsBoas 12-19-2008, 12:55 PM Last I checked, there was no cure for Crypto. It has always been considered & treated as a death sentence for the animal. Thats a TALLLLLLLL claim to make if nothing has changed about Crypto.
JChandler 12-19-2008, 09:37 PM Besides what Bryon said a few parts struck me as odd....
AID IN THE FIGHT AGAINST REPTILE DISEASE
If you have ever done that, you know it hurts the animal and it hurts me too to see them hurt! Plus it can leave bruises
Or in the case of a snake, hold open the mouth with the specula and inject the Reptaid down the throat with a long feeding tube.
Reptaid is not a medecine and will not go through FDA testing
But if you don't have the money for the vet, or you prefer natural holistic solutions to health problems, then Reptaid is for you!
That last line bugs the hell out of me...

Exactly! I had to put down 20 adult corns about 9 years ago because of crypto. Doc said there is nothing can be done except put them out of their misery.....
This stuff sounds like a feel good drug for owners who dont want to spend the money on vet bills.....

That about sums it up I think IMO
Most of those herbs cleanse out a human's colon or can be used for that purpose. Will be looking more into those herbs to see what I find.
Sputnik 12-19-2008, 10:37 PM Do they go town to town with a horse and cart and stand on the cart yelling, Miracle tonic...?

Looks like that is exactly what they did on that forum....
norsmis 12-19-2008, 11:33 PM Anyone tooting their own horn that loud sounds like a scam to me....

norsmis 12-20-2008, 07:00 AM Here is some more info posted in geckoforums.net: http://geckoforums.net/showthread.php?t=31526
This person has NO proof this stuff works. They have used it on a few chameleons but have no clinical data to back up their claims at all.....
norsmis 12-20-2008, 07:39 AM Check this BS out....

KordeksKritters 12-20-2008, 11:24 AM If you guys think that is crap, go over to the Reptastic forum and read his response to me. Well, he THOUGHT he was talking to Matt. I will go on later and respond, I am off to do Christmas shopping. But I thought you guys should know he has responded (if that is what you call a response).
Buckskin 12-20-2008, 12:00 PM Get him Kelly. Keep us posted.
KordeksKritters 12-20-2008, 03:19 PM Another mod closed the thread, but as a mod I can respond, so I did. I have also gone above her to the owner of the forum and asked the thread to be reopened...
KordeksKritters 12-22-2008, 09:20 AM Well the old thread was deemed to be necessary to be completely deleted. I had a decent round of PMs going with the owner letting him know that I think that deleting the thread was the incorrect decision, but he said it violates the "no advertisment" rule of the forum. He did give me a chance to go in and copy any info I wanted out though, and started a whole new thread on the product. So here is the new thread. Right now it is much shorter, but I have a feeling it is going to get bigger...

Let's see if this guy can actually answer MY questions like he does for everyone else's....
KordeksKritters 01-14-2009, 08:48 AM Just an update for people that might be interested....
The "new" thread was basically weeded out because they felt it was too BOI-ish, and that this guy was getting too hard of a time from me and one other member. So if you go read it now, NOTHING I have asked or any other member that has asked that is too "tough" is in the thread anymore. I am pretty upset about this, and will be emailing the owner about what he is doing. I doubt it will do any good, but I think he needs to know that I did receive a response to the email that Matt sent to the owner that is NOT flattering to how this guy is marketing this product. He has basically put it out there what the deal is with this Elliot person, and Elliot is NOT following it, and is lying about certain aspects of what he is doing.
I am going to have some "conversations" with the owner via email before posting them publicly, but thought you all might want to know. But trust me, this product is ONLY supposed to be in the testing stages for the next year, has ONLY been used on reptiles since October of 2008 (not the "almost a year" Elliot has been claiming), and is NOT authorized for sale to the general public (only to other dealers)....
I personally think that this should go to the BOI, but I have not had a personal buying experience from this guy, so I am not sure if it is appropriate really. What do you guys think?
jayefbe 01-14-2009, 10:12 AM I've seen BOI threads being started on less and I agree that it's probably something reptile owners should be aware of. Plus, you've developed quite a good reputation for being honest and sticking to your principles when you were the first to show David Young's true colors.
KordeksKritters 01-14-2009, 10:33 AM First, thanks for the compliment :yourock:
I think what I am going to do is wait until I have some more conversations in emails with the owner. I have also asked on the Reptastic thread about how people are keeping and reporting data to Elliot, as the owner of Amber Tech said he wanted Elliot to give him DATA for at least a year....
Or, should I go for it now? I just don't know....
