Well, I just sent the wife to get 20 medium female rats. Very excited! So is my male rat(but its a surprise i have not told him yet). I will be building one of Jeff Chandler's  massive breeding tubs tomorrow. I will post pics of the rats tonight and some of the tank tomorrow.

Not much building for the our big rat tub. Just need a top and a drilled hole for the water bottle. Good luck with the rat breeding.

You know, I think sometimes breeding the rodents can be as fun as breeding snakes. We have fun popping out different color mice and rats. Here is a pic of some of the variety we work with in mice.

Ditto that... my friend and I both breed rats and every once in a while we'll trade so we can have all kinds of colors. I even bought a blue and white rat off craigslist not long ago but now I have a crazy rat lady emailing me all the time about her pet rats... not sure if that one was worth it, lol!

Microdot I think you may have been better off getting small females and raising them to breeding size so you can catch them in their prime. The pet store or rat supplier may have already bred those medium females and retired them.

Good call. I'd also consider getting some Ivermectin or at the very least , putting one of No Pest strips around the tub. Pet Shop rats can carry visitors that you really don't want, inside and / or out.

If you go with Ivermec , mix 1/10th -2/10ths cc to a quart spray bottle and hose down the girls. It'll kill any fleas or hitch hikers and as they groom themselves & each other , it'll hit any potential internal parasites.

Its all fun and games until you get a snake that will only eat white mice!!!!
Yes, I had a ball python that would eat any kind (mouse, rat, gerbil, whatever) as long as it was white.... Wouldnt touch any other color! :machinegun:

LMAO, yeah most of our breeder mice are white. We just keep a couple sets of colored ones for our enjoyment. Funny thing is we used to have a ball that wanted only dark colored mice, he would fly into his hide in if you gave him a white one. Almost like he thought he saw a ghost.

Same here  I was always seeing what color mice I could make when i had rat snakes they didn't care what color it was then. But since getting into BP'S I have run across the all white eaters as well.

Damn, even 2 males to 24 females.. That's pretty crazy. Good luck with all them girls. Sounds like you'll be popping out litters in no time. I'd a gone for the small girls, too, though.

Norsmis, I got a pair of boas that won't touch anything but the white mice, too. Damn weirdos. I've theorized that the other colored mice might smell different for some reason, at least that's what I'm going with for now so I cna convince myself that my snakes aren't racist.

They are racist bro , LOL. I've had BPs take only white mice but never a boa.

The rats are all 150-180 grams. Here is a pic of my setup.

That wheel is 11 inches. The two black females are full size breeders. It looks small in the pic, I can take a pic with a better reference if you want. It was the biggest one the pet store had.
