i know this has been asked but which one holds its color the longest and are they both compatible?

There are good and bad of each line but most people will err towards VPI. However, it's Axanthic. :)

Just look for the best, brightest example you can find reguardless of the line.

are they compatible?

no.. The (3) three lines, VPI, TSK, Jolliff are not compatible. I also believe the newer line from VPI the black axanthic is incomptible with the others as well.

That is correct sir. They are not compatible. I know of yet another line of them that are in the process of being proven so far it's not VPI, or TSK finding out about Jolliff this season. The male was WC from Africa.

Again I have to ask this: I know on either a TSK RR show or a VPI RR show that the guest said that the two lines had not been crossed to see if they were compatible. People keep saying it has been done though but where exactly is the proof of this?

I heard that a het VPI and het TSK were bred together and didn't produce an axathic so it was deemed incompatible. We all know that 1 het to het breeding doesn't prove anything.

I'm been told by some breeders, "trust me, they aren't compatible" but where's the proof. :dunno:

Exactly

I would like to see a visual VPI x visual TSK before making a final decision on the matter.

I know that a het TSK was breed to a visible VPI and not 1 axanthic was produced in 2 seasons a total of 9 eggs. The VPI was breed to a het VPI in 2010 and 2 axanthic were produced out of 5 eggs. I'm going with not compatible.

While I would agree that that supports the idea that they are not compatible it still is not the absolute proof that a visual TSK x visual VPI would give you. After all, it is possible that someone just had really crappy odds.

I've never heard this story before--the only one I've ever heard was the one time, het. X het. breeding. This definitely lends much more credibility to the idea that the two lines aren't compatible.

As far as which is the nicer line, I think the general consensus among most people is that the VPI is slightly nicer and holds its color better. However, there are nice examples (and bad examples) of both lines. When you get opinions from people about these animals, most are going to tell you that they prefer whichever line is in their collection (Disclaimer: I have the VPI line in my collection).

IMO, the nicest thing about the TSK line is that it's more prevalent. You already have a limited pool of people who are into axanthics, and most people are only interested in the line that they already have. Therefore, there is potentially a bigger market for TSK animals.

Can I vote for the VPI black axanthic? :wamma:

Out of those 3, I'd choose the VPI axanthic, but I'm biased.
