I have not done much palpating before this season. I feel some rather large (what I think are) follicles in a couple females but in 2 of them I only feel 1 or 2. Do others begin to develop also? Are you sure your not feeling POOP/RAT? Since your not sure of yourself make sure you palp when the female is empty. Ralph has a very good link on his site about palping and how to do it.

I have not fed them in 2 weeks cause of the weather here. Cant get to far from my house. It could be poop or whatever I dont know that I would know the difference but it does feel like a hard little ball. I was doing it just like RDR did where he hangs them on the tub.

I suck at palpatating -- I'm pretty chicken shit about squishing them enough to feel the small follicles -- but when they get to be walnut size they are pretty easy to feel.

Lower half of the body, the ones where I feel more than one thing they are not right next to each other but a few inches apart I guess. I think im just not used to it so I cant tell for sure that what I do feel is a follicle and not crap or something else.

That is good info Jashole...I usually wait till a female is good and empty before I palpate...When I'm palpating I squeeze pretty hard...Lots of times I feel only a few small ones and come back a month later and feel more...Happened a lot last year...I'd have big girls (2000 grammers) and would only feel 3 or 4 - Come back in a month and feel 6 - 7...The girls I palpate early are the ones that are starting to change colors...Their head color and their neck stripes always change first...I have in the past had follicles that had big gaps in between them too without slugs in the clutch but I think thats the exception rather than the rule...The easiest way to tell if your getting slugs is to wait about a week after ovulation...If the eggs feel like water balloons your all good - If some feel hard just like follicles - Those are your slugs...The only way to get good at palpating is to practice...As with anything else - The more you practice the better you get - The better you get is when you can really feel the small ones...
