Had my first escape tonight, about 30 minutes ago actually. My little blonde pastel female the one from my avatar. I can home and went in to give my snake a look. I noticed the little girl had pissed so I open her tub to clean her and lift the hide, NOTHING, lift the paper, NOTHING.

Ok so im a little unsure of what was going on at first, I had a few beers with dinner. So I take a peek at all the obvious near by places and nothing. Ok time to ring the bell and make the 'a snake is loose' statment. Which was no big deal my girlfriend is a avid animal person, but i do have 4 large dogs and a cat and that little girl could easily squeeze under the door.

I grab the flash light im looking, im looking, im looking NOTHING, rebecca comes in and finds the snake in about 45 seconds. THANK GOD!

She was squeezed between some boxes, no where near a heat source, thats why i had not looked there yet. She was freezing but fine as far as I can tell. I put her back in her tub and she goes right back to trying to push up the lid. Needless to say I will be making sure I snap the lids down well from now on.

I know I dont have the best escapee story but I was really flipped out for a few minutes.

If you have a good escapee story let hear it.

I'm glad you found her =) It's always a relief to find them when they have gotten out =)

When I was younger I had black rat snakes..even a few garter snakes. Many escapes....Some I'm not sure were ever found and then at times I found picked up a few intruders getting in the basement as well (lol)

The worst/ most escaped snake I ever had was this one Black rat snake which was a 4-5 footer very nice rat snake..who I just couldn't keep in for the life of it. At times he would be missing for weeks a month maybe even. He'd always show up in the best places though..like one night we all were watching t.v and he showed up trying to crawl up the tv screen after being missing for 3-4 weeks......He also showed up in my moms bedroom one time either under or on the bed..THAT WAS NOT GOOD (LOL) The longest time he was missing. I ended up finding him at the top of the stair way door to the basement on the top of molding of the door...Needless to say that guy I think had basically explored the whole house at one point or another (lol) Kinda spent more time out then in...Whats also is amazing is he never got harmed by the 3 house cats either!!

I also had a 7-8 foot Black Rat big snake and strong!! I had 2 cement blocks on his lid of the tank and he could still get out!!! He Escaped ONE TIME from the basement and met mom in the kitchen upstairs. That escape put the lid on how many snakes I could have while living under mom and dads roof (lol)

Recently though my two escapes I wouldn't call them anything special...My carpet girl learned how to open her sliding door on her cage. Was out for a good part of the day in the snake room.

Then my Red Tail Suri male learned the same trick as well but I was in the room when he got out so it wasn't for long.

Locks on all sliding doors now :)

Thanks eveyone, I am glad it only took about 10 minutes to find her. I have no idea how long she had been out. I checked on them about noon then not again till after we got home from dinner and shopping. Judging by how cold she was it had to of been a few hours atleast.

I have been in twice since to check on her. She is still trying to push up her lid. I think her mate in the tub next to her is cluless to even try. He just perks up when i come in wanting to know if food is coming.

This is so true. Once they get a taste of freedom, they try even harder to get out. Buck has a few ball pythons he has to lock in the tubs on his rack because they learned how to push them open. And they aint no small little hatchlings either!!!

I think we've all had a Houdini at one time or another.

I had one. This is one of my favorite stories.

I used to keep all my snakes in fish tanks back in the day. Anyone who has done that knows how terrible it is. And we used to use those awful screen cover clips. You know the ones that snap like a mousetrap on your thumbnail? Fun stuff.

So I got this kingsnake and hes constantly getting out. I always found him, he never went far. But he was always on the loose. He got named Houdini. The puzzling part was I couldnt figure out how he was doing it. I put extra clips on the tank, he got out. I put weights on the tank, he got out. Very frustrating.

So one day Im changing water or whatever and I get to his cage. I take off the screen, put the screen down next to me and get his bowl. Then I decide to see if hes in there. I used to use aspen. Im digging around, check the hide, no...no....hes not in there!! I go to put the screen back on and look for him and I just happened to LOOK at the bottom of the screen. There he is wedged inside the frame of the screen! Thats what he was doing. He would wedge himself in there, Id lift the screen and put it down, he would scoot, and Id put the screen back on thinking he was in there. Sneaky little SOB!

I just didnt notice. I never made it a habit of looking at the bottom of screens. Until then.

That is a funny one V!! To the OP, glad your baby was found!

Now I found a BP in an odd place. Had a little hatchling escape not long after she hatched. She slid her tub out of the rack enough to make her escape. I finally found her the same day completely across the room, but not on th floor. I had a tube from some wrapping paper leaning in a cornor, and she was sitting on top of that tube (2.5 to 3 ft off of the ground). Not where I expected to fing a BP.

Yea you got lucky finding her in 45mins. Thats nothing. One of my hatchling Butter het pieds got loose, before it had it's first meal. I thought it was going to die for sure.

I was wiggin big time. I literally dumped my snakeroom upside down.

Found the little guy about 10-12 days later, all skinny. He's getting huge now, as he never refuses a meal...:D

During the same time Larry was lookin for his guy, I had a Black Pastel 400 gram girl get out. She was loose 24 hours. Checking the room after dark has always worked for me. Found her cruising down from the top of the rack. They will usually climb at night.

Larry, glad you found your boy. The=at would be a tuogh one to NOT find!!!
