Got some shots of these guys yesterday in South Padre Island, TX. It was very fun crawling through the dunes to get some pics of them. One was even bold enough to run up and do some push-ups/head bobbing while I was shooting! lol They are extremely quick and I managed to catch one out of maybe 20 I saw. I'm pretty sure they are earless lizards but I don't know which sub-species, anybody know?

Sweet pics. I haven't been back to SPI since the early '80's. A hurricane had just gone through and the surge pretty much had flooded the island. So not many herps were in evidence. Even the ubiquitous gopher torts were a rare find at the time. Although I did have the thrill of seeing a dolphin leap out of the water not 25 yards off of the beach.

From my research on your earless lizards I would have to say they are Holbrookia propinqua propinqua - Northern Keeled Earless Lizard

These are local to your area and the only variety with the side bars just behind the front legs. All others the side bars are just forward of the rear legs.
