In my first Super Pastel clutch I hatched out 2.1 and the males were strong feeders right away. The female however was very hesitant and after a month of no luck I started assist feeding her one fuzzy a week. I basically would leave the fuzzy overnight and if she didn't take it I would then assist feed it to her the next morning. Well it took a couple weeks but yesterday she finally took a fuzzy on her own. As a bonus I also had a male YB who was going thru the same thing also take a live fuzzy on his own. I hope they are starting to turn the corner and I can get them fat and happy.

This is the slow starter

This is my other Super Pastel female that hatched a week later than the others. This girl has no problem filling her belly!

Have you ever tried bag feeding. Take a paper lunch bag. Put in a 3 week old mouse or a small fuzzy rat live. Put in your snake and shut the bag. I leave them overnight. It works almost every time. Good luck

Thanks for the congrats everyone! I don't feel like I am out of the woods with her, but this is a giant step in the right direction. Definately had a great feeling of satisfaction after weeks of dissapointment.

Rich, hang in there and hopefully she will kick in soon. I certainly know how frustrating it is to have this little jewel and it just doesn't want to cooperate. Good luck man!

I've had a couple of troubled feeders and it's always a relief when they take their first meal but then you stress over the next one and the next one and the next one.

This past season any of the ones that didn't take after the first few offerings I went straight to the ASFs which every one took with ease. But then the conversion to regular food can be a little bit tricky as well but at least they were feeding.

Hope the following feedings go well - I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Good luck!

Yeah same here..it does work!..I actually went a bit further and just started assist feeding them f/t asf fuzzys..They took the live ones quickly after a few asssists too.

...and those little asf fuzzys are so small that the hatchling can't even spit it out if it wants to.

Congrats to the OP...glad she pulled through for ya

I actually started almost all of mine on ASF's, because that's what I had that was hopper sized. Those that started right away converted very easily to rat fuzzies within a few meals.

It's the ones that were more stubborn to start that I had more difficulty transitioning to rats.

Just wanted to give everyone an update. Tonight is feeding time and I am happy to say that the slow starting Super Pastel girl has eagerly taken a hopper and since she still looked hungry I offered her a rat pup wich she quickly scooped up. I am feeling more confident now that she has turned the corner and hopefully she can now start growing like her siblings. The male yellowbelly that I mentioned earlier in the thread also took a hopper on his own. I will try a rat pup for him next week.

Thanks for all the positive feedback and to others dealing with tough starters just hang in there.
