That's what these guys are calling it. With two new shows in Myrtle Beach S.C this year it is what's being called a new and better Daytona. With guys already committed to this new venue like Brian BHB,Micheal Cole,Greg Graziani,Ben Siegel,Nat Geo,Ian G,Amir,Sean Heflick and more this could be the new Daytona. In my opinion the huge factor here is bringing it all back and what that means is NO legislation in the S.C state. Florida has absolutely been killed with legislation killing thus Daytona. With that being said now we all can join together under one roof again including the BIG SNAKE guys, VENOMOUS, and everything in between. Everyone should really support these new shows coming up. I think you will see alot more big names signed up before the show but to me this is very exciting and just what we needed on the east coast! Definately keep your eye on this and everyone come out and support this new venue. BESIDES it's a vacation spot as well!

Jay eaton is putting on the first one from Exotic Jungle.
www.myrtlebeachreptileexpo.com July 23 -24

Repticon is putting on the 2nd on Sept 23 or something like that. You can find more information on that show at www.repticon.com

They are calling it the "ICE SHOW" which I though was pretty cool.

Well shoot, would have thought about the trip if it were during bike week!
Tinley is closest for us, but that does sound like a nice show!

I like Daytona - it's close - but I agree about the legislation....it has hurt the show pretty bad.

This show should be a really good time. Hey, it's on the beach too.........in the summer! Vendor list looks really good.........I'll have a table myself right next to some long-haired drummer guy who breeds the crap out of Blackheaded pythons! haha!

It sounds good. How is the MARS show? Could it surpass Daytona. I have only heard good things about it.

July is just too early. With that show being so early in the season, I'd think that alone really hurts it.

Now the Sept show is actually prime time....

I agree with that completely. Also, I think it would strengthen the show if it was just a once a year event. Really helps the turn out IMO. Its just not as special when theres multiple dates.

MARS isn't happening this year unfortunately. Its a good, big show but I dont think its a daytona. Granted, I've never been to daytona.

I'm really jazzed about this Myrtle Beach show, too. The writing has been on the wall for Daytona for a few years and all the recent Florida legislation seems to have made it even worse. I know a few breeders who felt pretty harassed by Florida Fish & Wildlife last year and expressed reservations about going back again this year. Vendors just want to sell their critters and hang out with friends and it seems like it's increasingly difficult for that to happen in Florida.

Myrtle Beach is a great place with lot's to do for party people and families alike. It's a great location choice.

I agree with Larry that the timing is a bit off for the show. Most of us won't have a lot of production on the ground by that time. September & early October is a sweet spot as far as timing. Hatching has occurred in earnest at that point. .

Sorry, little rant here, but I am so tired of comments like "Florida has absolutely been killed with legislation killing thus Daytona." Honestly guys, I am in FL and have done several FL shows. The legislation only hurt the big snake breeders, flippers, and those with shabby records. It has weeded out those "breeders" "in it for the money" in my opinion, but in NO WAY have we been killed with legislation. It is not hard or difficult to sell or vend in FL, you just have to have the proper permits and records. If you get mouthy or have a attitude then FWC WILL give you a harder time than if you are polite and professional....something quite a few vendors could learn mind you.
If you do not have direct experience with the legislation in FL, then PLEASE stop the "evil legislation" crap. USARK and even people like Greg Graziani help determine the legislation we have here in FL. I am a Florida residing reptile breeder, and the legislation we have here is really not that big a deal (except of the big constrictors).

We vended in FL, TX, LA, AL, MS, SC, and NC last year. They all require different types of permits. NC a transportation permit, TX a pet store permit and all the animals inspected by Wildlife, etc....you get the point right....every state has its own requirements. There were lots of vendors that did not bother with the legalities in each state in the hopes they would not get caught. When they did get caught, oh the evil legislation blah blah blah....seriously I am so tired of hearing that crap spouted by different vendors that tried to cut corners and whined when they got caught

Legialation is not what hurt Daytona. Daytona has been hurt mostly because of the high cost of vending at the show and the "garage sale" mentality that has become dominant there. I can not even count how many people I heard this last year that go with no intentions to buy until Sunday "because that is when everything is cheap" or how many vendors said they would not go because they would not compete with people just "giving" the animals away. Daytona was on a downhill spiral long before legislation came into play.

OK I have vented now......:o

Hey Jenea, I definitely see what you are saying. But for me personally, the legislation has hurt Daytona in that the big name ("big snake") breeders stopped coming when the ROC went into place - which then trickled down into other breeders opting not to come. I've been going to Daytona since I was a high school kid and it was in Orlando and it was magic to walk out onto the floor and see the big names that were in Reptiles Magazine! I've never owned a Burm or Retic (probably never will) but it was still cool to see NERD, Bob Clark, Wilbanks, and other big names - it just made it feel like it was the "big" show. By no means do I think that legislation alone has killed Daytona - there are definitely other factors involved - but the legislation and fear mongering in the media definitely haven't helped!

True Jon, it did keep the big constrictor guys out, but your here in FL, and the legislation is really not killing us or the FL shows.....there are SO MANY FL shows.....that has hurt as much as anything in my opinion.

I think legislation also has played a major role. As an example look at Tinley. This show is amazing and is doing well. There is a lot of enthusiasm and it is so much fun. But it costs a lot to vend. The table prices and everything are prohibitive but the show is exploding.

Dan, there are so many shows in FL now, 13 off of the top of my head....if it was really legislation, the smaller shows would not be multiplying like they are.

The Daytona show is evolving right before our eyes. Not sure if it is dying, or just changing. It has not been mentally overtaken as the "show of the year" yet, but I think Tinley is making a strong push for that win.

What IS happening in Daytona is sales. With a good number of "brands" staying home, there is less show competition, particularly in Ball pythons, and sales have been very strong for the past few years.

We (Pro Exotics) had our best Daytona show ever last year, and it was excellent the previous year as well. I don't know how long that continues, as the crowd has to stay hot, and stay buying, but from a vendor perspective, Daytona has been very good the past couple of years.

Just different.

I agree with Robyn. Daytona has been a selling frenzy the last couple of years. The laws down there suck but if you follow the rules you will be just fine. This new show in
July is just too soon production won't be there.

I agree strongly with Jenea and Robyn also had some good things to say.

Every vendor I know either did maybe not as good as years before, but still made money, or had their best year last year.

As far as sales in Daytona are concerned I have heard nothing but good things the last two or three years. Not Just from BP guys but gecko colubrid and product guys as well. The only guys I have heard complaints from were strictly boa guys, and even then my friend Rufus drives all the way from Tennessee to sell his sand boas there! Says its more than worth the gas hotel and vendor fees. So I agree with Robyn, its evolving.

Dan

Not even close. I've been to MARS for the last 6 years, and every year it gets smaller and smaller. Last year there were a lot of empty tables around the perimeter of the space. I'm not even that disappointed that it isn't happening this September.

I was also at Daytona last year, and despite the attendance factor, it was 10 times larger than MARS with 10 times the attendees. IMO, these shows aren't even in the same league.

NARBC is taking over the universe. Tinley is the new Daytona. I'm glad there is going to be a big show in Myrtle Beach. We'll see how it goes.

I have to say in 2009 Daytona was good to us... We sold out of dwarf monitors the first day and sold a ton of SIM containers even though it was the very first time they were available to the public...

Many vendors I know did very well last year at the show...

We are doing the show this year because we will have a few new products for sale and we will also have a bunch of hognose snakes, monitors and a nice suprize species available at the show...

As long as you follow the rules with breeding records, permits, and so on, you will not have any issues... I happen to think the rules are a good thing... Anyone worried about it must be doing something shady IMO...

FloridaHogs

Exactly Gregg. The rules are not really that big a deal and pretty easy to follow. You are even from out of state, so I bet there is a little more for you than there is for me.

Its ACTUALLY more EXPENSIVE in Daytona compared to Tinley:

Double Endcap Booth ($395 ea) in TP with 4 tables (2 extra tables $80) = $870

Equivalent 4 of the 8' tables ($250 ea) in Daytona = $1000

***And that gets you pipe and drape not just wood tables.
