S.Gilbert 04-17-2011, 09:59 PM Been a long time since I was in any shape to take my shirt off, but my youngest decided he was going to start training for a body building competition right after the school year started.
Did all his own research regarding training and diet and entered his first competition this weekend. For an untrained beginner, I think he looks pretty good. I guess the judges did too, as he finished in third place in the teenage division. The only two that finished ahead of him had been competing for 4 years already.
So I decided to put a couple of pics of him in here.......

Congrats to the son Shawn! Pretty amazing feat to be doing it alone!
Sputnik 04-17-2011, 10:45 PM Congrats.... nice job!

Yep, that was another of the points. Backstage, the two guys that beat him were each sponsered by a gym and had personal trainers tending them constantly. He did this all on his own.
Dan W 04-18-2011, 05:28 AM Congrats. He did an outstanding job. You must be very proud.

Bigtattoo 04-18-2011, 06:16 AM Looks great even for a veteran. First year/self trained is awesome.

He's definately got determination, and it shows . Good luck to him in the future.

He certainly does. A lot more will power than I do when it comes to food, but he has been a non stop eating machine since the competition ended....:lmao::lmao:
Immediately afterward, he had two full subs, a chocolate milkshake, a bag of potato chips, french fries, 4 chocolate chip cookies..... and that was just on the way home in the car!
Once we got home, he had a pulled pork sandwich with fried onions and BBQ sauce and a whole pizza!

Had to make up for 5 months of steamed rice and unseasoned chicken breast. Yesterday I made him five chocolate chip Belgium waffles and a half pound of bacon for breakfast. He washed it down with two big glasses of chocolate milk then had 3 oranges and 2 bananas... within 15 minutes he was snacking on hard salami and cheddar cheeses and had another pizza before lunch which turned out to be a dozen large full chicken wings.
He's trying to make up for everything he missed out on in those 5 months in the first two days!

I guess so!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:
I've seen the diets body builders go on for competition. Plain peeled baked potato, steamed rice, plain broiled boneless skinless chicken breasts and plain salads, no dressing. Oh and maybe rice cakes for a snack. Woohoo. But in between they pack on the pounds to try to beef up even more than the previous show.
With the crap going on out there these days it's really great to see a young man put his efforts into something more worthwhile. The pics clearly illustrate the sacrifice and dedication he has put into this.
If he hasn't already he might want to look into Dr. Ellington Darden's web site. He's worked with some of the top pros in body building and weightlifting. As a sports kinesiologist he has some methods that are very worthwhile although not what you would call mainstream. There is a lot of good information free for the taking.
TraceyS 04-18-2011, 04:03 PM Good for him-takes incredible self discipline and stamina to train like that!! Congrats!!
WinstonHS 04-19-2011, 10:59 PM Wow, his body fat percentage looks to be at 8 to 10 % fantastic!!! It is an extreme challenge to get below 12%. I am guessing his body type is inherently indomorphic. Looks like he has a solid foundation for a body building life/hobby. His core is EXCELLENT! Great stuff.

Yeah, his diet was even less diverse. At least for the last 5 months. All he had was an 8 oz. unseasoned chicken breast and a cup of rice several times a day. Been working hard at it since the school year started. During the summer he was into downhill mt. bike racing. Another thing he did entirely on him own. Worked a pert time job till he could afford a $1,700 (used price) bike and went at it. Entered 3 different races and ended up taking first place on his final race of the summer.
I know he's scoured the internet getting himself ready, but don't know if he knows about Ellington Darden. I'll pass it along.

He never did the water displacement, but he did the tape test and the calipers. Depending on which one you believe in more he was either 6 or 6.5%. on the day of competition.

Wow, nice!
Bones93 05-02-2011, 03:10 AM He was defomotely in lower single digits. He looks amazing for his first show. Especially his abs and obliques. He put in alot of work and it paid off. Good luck in future shows
