Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I have been lurking and listening to the radio shows for a little while. It is pretty cool to get positive feedback about things I am passionate about as well. I have worked with these guys since they came into the states and they are a blast.

Awesome. Blues are the only arboreal monitors I have ever considered. But I have to get my Kimberlies first!
What kind of prey items do you offer them? I have been told they are mostly insectivores, even as adults.

Hey Blue:

Sorry for the really late response. The group is a 1.2 sex ratio. Only the smallest female will not take a rodent every time it is offered. That being said, because they are a "small" and active species of monitor I typically will feed them dubia roaches three or four days a week - as many as they want which is anywhere from one to five adult males and/or large prematurity females. A prematurity female is right before the roaches’ exoskeleton gets hard. I feed them one or two small mice per week to make sure their getting calcium and fat, but not too much. I have noticed that if I feed them mice more than once a week they get lethargic which is not how I picture a tree monitor being. The only other thing I ever feed them is tomato horned worms. I always feed whole prey items.

These were "farm bred" imports. From day one in my care I let them do what they wanted and never forced handling or unwanted interaction on them. Leaving them alone and providing the proper hot spots, temperature gradient, multiple hiding spots and visual breaks, proper humidity, fresh water and whole food prey items allowed them to thrive. More importantly, they gave me a level of trust that allowed me over time to interact with them and enjoy the hell out of them. In my experience they are very hardy and easy to care for.
