I did not know it was monsoon season there. The trip was a little over 600 miles, each way. Driving through a hail storm on my way should have been a sign. Luckily there was no damage to my truck. It is however, currently covered in mud. Nightly tornado warnings, torrential thunderstorms and high winds made sleeping in my little tent a little on the nervous side. The days were extremely humid and wet, which of course attracted those certain mosquitoes that are immune to all forms of bug spray. Not bad conditions for the frogs and sallies, but it really kept the snakes, turtles, and lizards in hiding. I think the sun shined for all of about 20 minutes the entire trip. Our snake count was a dismal 6 (my lowest ever for Snake Rd.). 4 juvie cottonmouths, a ringneck, and a beautiful garter. I didn't photo all the animals seen, but here are a few pics from the field. Thanks for looking.

Can't wait to get in the woods soon, the snow just finally left so it won't be long. Pictures were great.

I was just about to ask what kind it was. We don't have those this far north :(. Pretty for a ribbon snake though

that garter is a western ribbonsnake...

That is correct. It was properly IDed by a friend on another site, and by you.

Thanks for noticing.

One word for the bugs at those swamps that worked like a charm for me when I was down there is a thermacell, never leave home without it...

Looks like a decent trip despite the weather!

It has been a soggy spring so far downstate. Glad you managed to have a good time in spite of it. Some great shots of a nice variety of critters.

Thanks, I would have liked to have a lot more snake shots, but the weather didn't cooperate.

At least you weathered the storm without any severe problems. Looks like it turned out pretty well despite the setbacks.
