lol... no its a guinea. They aren't good for much except keeping the bull snakes out of the chicken house and being a watchdog. They yelp when anyone pulls up in the driveway... they sound like they are saying HELP! HELP!!!

Oh so the guinea is a guinea. I got it now, lol!

They chase snakes? Well cover me with brown sugar and call me to breakfast, aint that summin'.

So they arent raised for eggs or food? Just kinda like a pet?

I had a pet rooster for a little while. I bought a bunch of live chicks after Easter one year as snake and lizard food. Back in the day pet shops used to sell chicks around Easter. I believe that has been outlawed, its actually a very cruel practice. But thats another story. Anyway, once the holiday is over the shops basically give the leftover chicks away just to get rid of them. So I took a whole load of them. Fed offa bunch and decided to keep a bunch alive and get'em bigger for the larger animals. I set'em up in the garage, got some chicken starter and found out that a chick goes from baby to full grown chicken in about ten minutes. They grew overnight. I couldnt feed them off fast enough. Yeah, I could have killed and froze them but they were pretty cool.

So eventually I had about a dozen chickens running around the garage and the backyard. The neighbors loved it. The best was one morning I heard a rooster crow and looked outside to see Mr. Cool ( That was his name) perched on the fence and belting out a good morning.

Dear Lord are they dirty. It was fun but it was way out of hand in an urban neighborhood. I had to put them down. By then they were too big for any of my animals. Thought about eatin' em but its hard to eat someone once you get to know them. :D

Guinea hens is what we call them. Thay are excellent at pest control, early warning system (they are LOUD), and they are good eatin as well. I think they are more like a pea**** than a chicken

I had guinea hens when I lived west of here. I had geese, ducks, chickens, Bantam chickens, guineas, and a big tom turkey and three pea "fowl". The guineas flew everywhere and hunted bugs while everyone else stayed in the fenced animal yard. The pea fowl slept up on top the house and made a pile of pea-crap up there. Then one year, the animals started disappearing without a trace. Not even a stray feather. Adult geese would disappear. Poof. Gone. Ducks. The tom turkey. Gone. Pea fowl, gone. One dusk evening I was headed down the path to the animal area (6' chainlink fence around it) and I saw a mountain lion leap up into the willow tree that grew above the duck's pond. He thought I didn't see him, but I decided it would be smart to not go into the animal pen that evening. Every single bird, about thirty-forty in all, disappeared over the space of about three months. I think that lion ate em all. Thumbs up for farm life, says the lion.

Guineas prefer to flock, and will "attack" in mass. If they don't eat it they will at least scare it!

Cool pic Ron...Neighbors of ours had them at two different farms......They liked them for bug control around the barns as well as alerting when people came around....This has got me thinking....I need to take some farm pic's here as well :) Gotta remember to take camera thats the only problem (lol)

My father in law had planned on getting 3 -4 guineas because they usually do flock. He had a pair and the male was eaten by a coyote leaving the female aloone. He thought she would die soon after but its been a year. She decided to flock with the cats. She goes every where they go.... its kind of comical watching a guinea run around with the barn cats....
