Quig 05-22-2011, 12:06 AM What do they eat? Scott, they're strictly amphibian eaters, toads and frogs, but Jenea swears they can be switched over to rodents :D. I'm gonna try a little harder this summer to get them switched over. snakeden80 05-22-2011, 12:11 AM it freakin hard to switch them it no easy task good luck you can sent the food with toads/frogs it works some times Sputnik 05-22-2011, 12:12 AM Scott, they're strictly amphibian eaters, toads and frogs, but Jenea swears they can be switched over to rodents :D. I'm gonna try a little harder this summer to get them switched over. Sounds very challenging! Dan W 05-22-2011, 07:51 AM Very nice. Good luck with getting it on rodents. The more I look at her the more gray she looks. Kuehnemund 05-22-2011, 02:15 PM Nice lookin' snake, are you finding these or a friend, because no matter how hard I look I can't seem to find any... :dunno: Gregg M 05-22-2011, 02:36 PM Very cool Quig... Hope you have breeding plans for this species... It would be great to see Easterns (and southerns) get established like the Westerns... There is so much of a natural variability in their colors and patterns... Quig 05-22-2011, 02:40 PM Nice lookin' snake, are you finding these or a friend, because no matter how hard I look I can't seem to find any... :dunno: Justin, a friend of mine lives about a half mile down the road and he's surrounded by lowlands with pines on the property. He finds a half dozen or so every year. Quig 05-22-2011, 02:44 PM Very cool Quig... Hope you have breeding plans for this species... It would be great to see Easterns (and southerns) get established like the Westerns... There is so much of a natural variability in their colors and patterns... Gregg, I do Indeed intend to try and breed these two and see what becomes of it. Not sure what I'll get out of a Gray/OD Green x Orange belly mix, but what the heck. If you are succesful (spelling?) in breeding these two, I want one!! Quig 05-22-2011, 03:20 PM If you are succesful (spelling?) in breeding these two, I want one!! I'll see what I can do  :D LOL, I just realized, you're in Reese. I can Drive that far. :D Kuehnemund 05-23-2011, 05:42 PM I'll see what I can do  :D LOL, I just realized, you're in Reese. I can Drive that far. :D Yeah, or I can drive up to you  FloridaHogs 05-23-2011, 11:53 PM Beautiful Quig!! One of my favorite girls was charcoal like that. She would only come out if I was in the room by myself....anyone else in there and she would hide :D and yes they are fairly easy to switch to rodents if ya know how! LOL! I will start a new thread to show you proof! :p Quig 05-24-2011, 12:01 AM and yes they are fairly easy to switch to rodents if ya know how! LOL! I will start a new thread to show you proof! :p Thank you ma'am. That would be much appreciated. I appreciate any hints you can give me. At the moment I can't get far enough ahead with amphibians to freeze up any for future use for scenting. Whatever I catch, and it hasn't been much yet this season, is eaten almost imediately by the male :D. Feel free to PM me anything if you don't wanna do the whole tutorial thingy. FloridaHogs 05-24-2011, 12:06 AM Gonna sound weird, but start with reverse scenting. Scent the toads with mice, so the animals start associating the rodent scent with food as well Then you flip flop, but getting them onto f/t toads is key. You want to train them to eat non moving prey. Quig 05-24-2011, 12:20 AM Gonna sound weird, but start with reverse scenting. Scent the toads with mice, so the animals start associating the rodent scent with food as well Then you flip flop, but getting them onto f/t toads is key. You want to train them to eat non moving prey. Will it work with frogs as well Jenea? I've got more of them round here just now than I do toads. FloridaHogs 05-24-2011, 12:25 AM I think the frogs work better. Quig 05-24-2011, 12:32 AM I think the frogs work better. Excellent, those I can find easily. Heck, I might take a wander out by the lake tonight yet :D. Oh, another thing. Can I use rat pinks instead or should I stick with mice? FloridaHogs 05-24-2011, 01:20 AM I prefer the mice because rat pinks are so much fattier, but that is just me. Quig 05-24-2011, 08:52 AM I prefer the mice because rat pinks are so much fattier, but that is just me. Was just a thought. I've got more rat pinks than mice at the moment. Guess I'd better invest in some F/T mice then  S.Gilbert 05-28-2011, 11:10 PM Congratulations. Good luck with it. |
