We used to when we didnt have a room as an incubator it was fine, in nature a ball python clutch is deep down in a burrow without any air circulation, so as long as temps are constant its ok not to have fans, we like them just because they evenly distribute the heat

I run a PC fan and I hook it up to my Herpstat so it runs only when the heat is on. I have to do that for my Hognose. The fan keeps the incubator 2-3 degrees to hot if it runs all the time.

Be careful adding to many fans as your temps could get to hot. Just something to keep in mind.

I run fan less also. I can't keep good humidity with it. I live in northern WI and when the eggs first go in the incubator the air humidity is usually 20-30%. I mix my boxes at 1:1 and still have to add water at least once. I use snap and seal containers. When I tried the fan I would have to add water at least every two weeks.

well, I turned off my fan and temps are good top to botttom. turns out the pc fan creates more problems(humidity) then anything .I see ALOT if not ALL, small incubators get put together with 1-2 fans........engineering fun, but not worth the hassle or effect in the long run ,at least for me and many others here........the idea of pushing the air for even heat is great in theory buuuuut no. so for my next incubator build I will spend more time on lights , not fans, MUWHAHAHAHAHAH:rockon:

fans are less important in a small incubator in my experience but the bigger you get they are great, if not necessary.

Most importantly if you got taller. Warm air rise while cooler air goes down, so you want to compensate for this by having warm air push down and vice-versa.

So is it really important, not necessarily, does it help of course. It can also go against you if the fans heat too much.

You mean there isn't a nice, constant, gentle breeze?

The problems with that is that the fan is on when the air is still down.

You do not move the air much around, even worst if you are using a proportional thermostat, meaning the fan will run slow. You better remove it completely then.

Otherwise, if it's an on/off thermostat, you can use the signal to start a timer. So when the heat goes off, put the fan on for another 5-10 minutes. (But might get a bit complex for nothing).

I have a good sized wine cooler incubator. My fan died out about a week into incubation. I had to adjust my temps slightly but no problems. I have a clutch hatching as we speak!

I have a 6ft glass front tropicana fridge converted to an incubator. I don't run fans either. I have heat tape running along the bottom and up the back. Haven't had any issues.
