View Full Version : whats better 147BOAS 12-30-2008, 12:11 AM open air cages or closed air cages for breeding and why beclende 12-30-2008, 04:35 AM closed air.........you can always add more ventilation to them if needed, hard to take it away from the open air systems......... FloridaHogs 12-30-2008, 08:03 AM Depends on what you are breeding. It is easy to tack up foam board, card board, or something to the like in an open air system if you need to for a period of time. skm0308 12-30-2008, 08:51 AM Unless you're heating and can control the humidity in the room you're keeping your snakes, it's going to be much easier to contol those factors with a closed air system. snakebite 12-30-2008, 09:39 AM closed air system for sure. its to much of a pain to deal with the open air systems to me. FloridaHogs 12-30-2008, 11:41 AM Unless you're heating and can control the humidity in the room you're keeping your snakes, it's going to be much easier to contol those factors with a closed air system. Most of my systems are open air, and I do not have that problem at all. I am also in FL though, so humidity is always high. MarkS 12-30-2008, 11:58 AM I like the closed racks myself. Up here in MN in the winter time, humidity is always a problem. Closed systems don't dry out as quickly. AaronP 12-30-2008, 01:12 PM I don't think it really matters...but mine is close air. janeothejungle 12-30-2008, 01:22 PM Closed. I live in an irrigated desert, humidity does not come easily. ~Kat Desert 12-30-2008, 01:52 PM I use all open air enclosures. For the boas during winter, I use a Honeywell humidifier to keep the room humidity bumped up around 55 percent. Works great and has a reservoir that holds several gallons. Summer it is not needed because that's when the rains come here. I use an evaporative cooler for the room probably eight-nine months of the year so that gives humidity during the non rain periods of spring and fall. For my Australian pythons, I don't humidify their room. I add a little water to their cat pan's newspaper to keep it damp. I'm not saying open air is best I'm just relating what I do. 147BOAS 01-03-2009, 02:55 PM so far it looks like every one likes closed air cages |
