I really didn't need another project, but have always found these interesting. I have to add these Giant Hogs. Any tips would be great.

Any tips would be great. Dan W 06-18-2011, 07:59 AM Very cool. Good luck with your project. Dan norsmis 06-18-2011, 08:24 AM I have never even seen one of these in person. I have read about them though. Interesting species for sure! I bet Jenea could give you some advice. Good luck with them! smilin-buddha 06-18-2011, 09:01 AM Much larger than the Western. THe rear Fangs are very small and way back in there mouth. I like those damn weird snakes. FloridaHogs 06-18-2011, 06:01 PM Yeah, don't get bit! They carry more punch than the other hoggies. Mine feed on f/t or live (though I only feed live pups so the snakes do not get bit.). They do not kill first, but swallow live....just horrible when they take a live pup butt first..... I keep mine at 78 with no additional heat. When I provided heat, I noticed a lot of bowl wrapping as if trying to cool down. I removed the heat and the bowl wrapping stopped. smilin-buddha 06-18-2011, 08:50 PM I thumped a couple of mice and left them in the tub. I am using newspaper substrate and some shredded paper to give them a little security. If they do not take that I will try the rat pups FloridaHogs 06-18-2011, 09:09 PM They love hides....old cereal boxes work well....when mine first came in, I would have to leave the mice at the hide opening over night. They would not eat with me in the room...very shy. They are over it now (except one of the speckleds) smilin-buddha 06-18-2011, 09:15 PM Thanks for the tips. I will try. I have them setup in the spare bedroom right now. But they look so clean I might move them over to the snake room this week FloridaHogs 06-18-2011, 09:28 PM If they are imports, which I suspect they are, I would give them a round of panacur before I did that. I worry most about internal parasites. smilin-buddha 09-07-2011, 10:24 PM http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i271/smilin-buddha/6125749528_9dcba7a589_b.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i271/smilin-buddha/6125725800_60f1cc89fb_b.jpg FloridaHogs 09-08-2011, 02:49 PM Looking great! So yours like rats better than mice? Mine do. smilin-buddha 09-08-2011, 08:17 PM Never tried Mice. First couple of times I just dropped them in at night. Next day they were gone. Last night I just dropped them in and decided to snap a couple of pics. I really like these. Want to try and breed them next year mollie_018 09-08-2011, 08:52 PM They are adorable good luck and I hope it's fun for you. tfs 09-08-2011, 09:03 PM Different in a cool way . Sara 09-08-2011, 10:34 PM Typical hog butt first feeding, lol! Very nice and congrats on the new ones settling in so quickly, that is great! StudentoftheReptile 09-10-2011, 06:07 PM I had a pair of these once. Very awesome snakes! Good luck with them! FloridaHogs 09-10-2011, 07:18 PM You might want to put them together now and see what happens. From what I could gather, the fall is when they breed in the wild. smilin-buddha 09-10-2011, 10:52 PM I was thinking about it she was wrapped around the water bowl thought she might be ovulating smilin-buddha 09-24-2011, 08:14 AM Odd last night I was misting the cage. Even though they have a water bowl in the cage. They starting drinking the water out of the sprayer. And it was noticeable. I had been misting them because the female had goen into shed. I use a pvc coupler and a deli cup. I am wondering if she did not find the water or just liked the spray reminded her of rain. |
