When we got our Red Tail Boa, she was just over a year old. She has always been a calm snake, even at feeding time. We have had her over a year now.. Here lately she has started hissing (hasnt ever struck out yet) and just not acting normal for her. Is this common in female RTBs? She is the first boa we have had and we are not sure what could be causing her attitude change unless maybe she is just turning into a more aggressive snake as she gets older?
Any info would be greatly appreciated (:
Thanks,
Alli & Lucas

I have one that gets hormonally cranky. Sweetheart the rest of the year. Could be something along those lines? I can't guarantee it of course, but is kind of what it sounds like to me. Too bad they don't make midol for reptiles, lol!

With most snakes they go through changes much like a human. When snakes are younger they may act different from when there three and four. I have own many different boas and they tend to go through what I refer to as a teen stage. The snake in this period tends to see how far they can push. In other words they are testing the water. Just keep being persistent with the boa and it should calm down.
Hope this helps,
