This year I had to redo the box turtle pen walls, due to the shifting that occured during the winter. Before the walls were just 2x8x16 blocks on end, but this year I built new walls and I used 8"x16" cinder blocks to add stability and I laid a couple inches of gravel under them for drainage, and the top row re-used the 2x8x16 blocks to create a 4" overhang. Pretty sure this will not shift this winter and there is no way any turtle can climb out.

You need some seating, tables etc.... maybe a umbrella set up or pergola type thing so I can sit out there and stare at that little wilderness area. Very cool man!

Thanks all, right now I have 11 adults box turtles in the pen. I have both easterns and 3 toeds, I know, I know you shouldn't keep them togather because the might interbreed, but so far I have only seen eastern breed eastern and 3 toed breed 3 toed, besides I'm not serious about breeding them anyway they are just pets that I enjoy watching and feeding, ect.
I will tell you one thing, that was some seriously back breaking work, I wouldn't recommend it, wood walls would be so much easier, however this will last my lifetime whereas wood would rot out in 10 years, either way I'm too old to do that crap again, but for now I will just crack open a beer and enjoy the summer sounds of the ponds, mainly about 5 different species of frogs lately!!!.:cheers:

Nice setup. I used to catch eastern boxies alot and as soon as I set up their pen they ended up escaping. Those guys are crafty little devils. You would never think these guys can pull off such an escape, buy they do :)
