Just curious. I line mine with paper and they hang out under that for the most part. seems nigh impossible to establish a gradient in shoebox container much less fit two hides in there.

your thoughts and speculations welcome!

If they're under the paper... they're hiding.
I use aspen shred with mine and they burrow under it and hide, so no, don't use a separate hide for them.

I keep my hogs, in tubs with aspen shavings, no hides. I have found that they like to bury in the shavings. The only thing I can say about babies is that I think they would rather bury themselves to feel secure. Just last night a friend was showing me a snow that he hatched out that morning. The babies were all buried in the vermiculite and seemingly content to do so. Hope this helps.

yeah it does. I just wanted to be sure I was doing things the right way. I am new to hognose.

Another one here who just lets them hide under the paper. Like you say, in a small tub theres not room for much.

any reason you aspen users prefer aspen to paper?

No hides here either. When i had fewer animals, I used aspen. Now I use paper mostly because of the cost factor. Hoggies like to burrow, so aspen is good for that, but they do just as well "burrowing" under the paper.

that was what I thought. I prefer paper for cleaning and spotting poos.

especially with the little guys, paper is so much easier.

we use paper for the hatchlings and aspen for 3+ month

as long as the tub isnīt to big and there is "something" to hide like paper or every kind of bedding you do not need an aditional hide

I put hatchlings on paper, then once they are a month or so I put them onto aspen. To be totally honest I just like aspen because I love the smell when they are all stripped and spotless and you walk in and all you smell is clean bedding, paper doesn't have that smell. Silly, I know, but I just like the smell.

No hides here.

I used paper towels for some time. It works great.

Now I just put hatchlings on sani-chips. They can hide and it makes spot cleaning very easy.
