I just purchased a well started Sinaloan baby and am hoping to breed her to a male I have had for quite some time. In all the literature I read about them no one says what size the female maybe ready to breed. Most go by eye, which doesn't help me. Corns are started at 300gms, what do you think a sinaloan female can start at?

Congratulations!!! All the info I could find was on age and they said around two years old.

Some people believe you can breed female kings really small but I always like to wait a good 2-3 years. If they look big enough to comfortably pass an egg they should be ok. Look for good muscle tone.

Age has nothing to do with it.....in MY opinion.......
I believe it has more to do with size....some folks have 1 year old snakes larger than other folks 2 year olds..........so age is irrelevant.......again in my opinion.....

There are some folks that have bred 20 inch Sinaloans at 18 months of age......
Their is no "cookie cutter" recipe to go by.......The old rule for breeding Lampropeltis was the 3's rule......3 years old.......300 grams and 30 inches.........

After brumation if the female ovulates she can and will lay eggs if husbandry is correct (including nesting provisions) and the male does his job..........In my experience that is how it happens........Regardless of size or age........This is what I have gone by.........

Don't know. I've honestly never weighed a snake in my life. I just eyeball them.

Thanks for all the info. I have to say I question things only because I was breeding corn females by eye this year and I made a mistake by breeding a female too young and lost her with egg binding. I hated losing her and it was my lack of experience. I wil never let that happen again. Sinaloan breeding would be new to me and I don't want to screw up. Thanks again.

Egg binding isnt always because of the size of the female. I have had very large female corns get egg bound and I have also had very small females lay perfectly. I will say breeding a female that is too small does increase the chances of egg binding though. Some females just have problems keeping them from laying.

You know its funny. I bred a female that was smaller last year than the snow that bound this year. Thought I would be fine and then I lost her. I feel bad because I was so happy to think I could raise more snows this year. A really nice color morph imo. Losing her was definitely not what I had in mind. Have you had egg binding in females over the 300 gm size?

Egg binding is usually linked to husbandry issues........

This. I don't weigh them either, I leave that to ball python people. I go by age to a point, I don't want a gal that happens to have grown quickly to be to young (IMO only!) and I want a good girth and a solid muscle tone. I eyeball and feel.
