View Full Version : Snake Racks
skm0308 10-15-2008, 08:31 PM While not quite as exciting as the others, here's my two racks. The empty tubs are for my future lesser, pinstripe and some 09 holdbacks.

Travis Kubes 10-16-2008, 09:04 AM Nice looking racks!
BryonsBoas 10-16-2008, 12:44 PM Not bad looking racks. How is the sideways 41 qt rack working out for ya?
skm0308 10-16-2008, 02:30 PM The sideways rack isn't too bad, you have to be careful about your tolerances between shelves because when you slide the tubs in they tend to bend up in the middle if it's too tight. I've got two in there that you have to slide in with 2 hands, but the rest work just fine. And it's wood so that doesn't help, if it was melamine like the other rack I don't think I'd have any problems. I like being able to see the entire length of the tub vs just one end of it.
BryonsBoas 10-16-2008, 02:33 PM You are probably lucky its not melamine , it has a strong tendancy to sag if not supported properly.
Jerry Adams 10-16-2008, 05:00 PM Glad to see I'm not the only one that thinks guns and reptiles are a great combo. lol

I have the same problem. Racks that are sagging. lol
I think best is when they have a lid. Im unsure myself but o' well. Waiting on some more money for a pvc rack. :machinegun:melamine!
BryonsBoas 10-18-2008, 02:28 AM Hollow core door racks would work good for sideways set ups if you the room and euipment to build them. WAYYYY lighter than melamine too. Once I replace my equipment , I'll replace all my melamine racks with the hollow core door racks.

I built that taller rack with melamine and had no idea it was going to be as heavy as it is! Good idea with the hollow core doors.
BryonsBoas 10-18-2008, 10:46 AM Thanks but far from my idea to use the doors. Only thing I can claim is thinking it would be a good material for sideways racks.
JChandler 10-18-2008, 12:30 PM Nice set ups.
I used melamine for my hatchling and 15 qt racks and I like it, easy to clean but a pain to move even with the wheels.
I want to build some more with it but I am afraid to build that 41 qt rack that takes 5 people to just move it in the house...
constrictorkeeper 10-18-2008, 01:22 PM i really like the security system.

Thanks, the 41 qt rack I drilled small holes and put nails with the tips cut off to keep them from getting pushed out and to make sure I push them all the way in. Not a great idea, but it works. I read on another forum about the window screen holders and used those on my other rack and they look much better and work like a charm. Really gives me peace of mind that I'll wake up with all my snakes right where I left them.
Steven_Kelley 11-12-2008, 05:53 PM Wow those look really good! :yessir:
