Hey all.... I need a genetics lesson.

Now I think that the spider is co-dom... and if you breed a spider to a normal you will get roughly 50% spiders and 50% normals out of that breeding. Is this correct?

What other morphs can you do this with?

I have been able to get 4 normal girls... and I need some males for them... but not sure whats out there that would work like the spider gene.

Thanks for your help

Yes statistically that is correct. Although it doesnt break down that way all the time. Any other co dom gene like Pastel, Pinstripe, Enchi, Lesser, Mojave etc etc etc. There is way to many to list.

awww now... comeon... go ahead and list. Im not huge into the BP sceene so there are only a few morphs that I truely like.

I know I will be gettin a pair of spiders... I want a female to breed to my male albino... really diggin the spider albinos.

Just gotta find something else... I dont want to breed a spider to all 4 girls.

Also... those that pop out normal... will they be het for the co-dom.. whatever it may be?

No there is no het for co dom. The normal offspring from a co dom X normal are normal. Just look up a list or go to RDR's matrix or something. If I tried to list them all I would miss some for sure and it would take forever.

I like the way thats set up. Easy to see what you get but Granites have a Super that looks different than the het form so he is wrong in having the Granite in that category.

Yeah he needs sometype of update. Just like the Spider in the domanate cat being a Homo. Homo to homo producing all spiders. I think that one may still be up in the air and has not been talked about in a while.
But I think his chart just gives you the basic's of what recessive, co-dom and dom.

Get you a pastel somewhere in there so you can make some bee's.

Hey Noah if I read that chart right the spider has a het form and a homozygous form. Which I guess would be considered a super. But visually it doesnt seem as though they are different. I dont recall ever seeing a "super spider" but I could be mistaken.

Is there a difference in the visual form of a homozygous spider? I mean can you tell them apart from the het spiders in a clutch?

The "super spider" pops up in discussion yet again. Did I hear somewhere that Spider x Spider clutches are usually bad? I know Brian from BHB has either a Spider or a Pin that he believes is a super because it never fathers normal babies.

Its new to me. Im still a'learnin' bout them thar ball python geeeeeeenetics. :yessir:

Thats why I like varanids. We just have to figure out what species they are. Done! LOL!

Yea Brian has a pin that he says has fathered about 20 or so babies all pins. There is no super of the Spider or Pin that looks different at this point V.

There is no one that has claimed to have a homozygous spider, yet, atleast. Some people think that the homozygous spider may be a lethal combination and prevents any from hatching. It's strange that with all the spider breeding that has been done that no one has mentioned that they have a homo spider.

Yeah... that sounds like a plan... however I dont really know what a good pastel looks like. Ive seen alot I wouldnt give $5 for.

The brighter yellow the better, and the least amount of brown scales on the top of the snake the better. There are good and bad examples of each line. So just search around and be picky.

i just did the punnet square and i'm pretty sure it's 75% spider and 25% normals. the punnet squares never lie !

I think a good fire is the way to go . I dont have one yet but we have lessers , a super vanilla , a pr of blackback black pastels as far as co doms.
I believe the spider is a dominant trait....if they carry they show.
The fire is gonna get better as it ages and that is what I am looking for .
I am afraid of the spiders so we are staying shy there . not meaning to draw fire from anyone on the spider thing .

Time will tell on these black back black pastels . The pr we have looks good from GCR . The heads look good . The combos I have seen look good from this line .

I wouldn't claim that either....

Well, you did your punnet square wrong somehow...a spider (assuming it is your plain old het spider) would have 50% odds of producing a spider or a normal when bred to a normal.

Yep, it is 50/50 per egg.

LOL. Yeah, I see why no one has come forward now. There may indeed be thousands of them sitting in racks, but no one wants to let others know that their spiders are gay.
