The albino gohpers are one of my favorite albinos. Nice, big albino with a really cool pattern.

They look like Sonoran to me.

You never got the hiss? That is part of the fun with pits is to hear that hiss like a tire deflating!

Nice gophers Bro!

excuse my "noob-ness" with Pits, but what exactly is a sonoran, google says they look virtually the same lol

norsmis - they are both really tame, only ever had a tiny little tail rattle, once lol very slight hiss but nothing impressive yet haha

They have been so cross bred in the pet industry, there is no telling. You could have a cross from all the subspecies with a little rat snake thrown in!!!!

They are very similar, yes. Nor put up a nice link that shows the subtle differences.

Sonorans seem to be the most common and most popular. With the San Diegos second. I havent heard very much about the other guys.

Its almost the same snake. Just look a little different. And Nor help me out here dont the Sonorans get a bit larger than most?

norsmis

The Sonorans due tend to get slightly larger than the rest. I ahve seen pics of 7 foot sonorans......

erikpaterson
01-11-2009, 07:41 AM
becomign increasingly more so yes, theres a big thing on the UK's biggest forum "the pit revolution" as so many have just started buying them, i reckon the morphs coming down in price etc will mean they will start to take over from the corns as their still somethign just a bit out of the ordinary.
bull snakes too, Francesco de phillipo (i think thats his second name) from Italy has started posting pics of his axanthic ivories and blizzard and what not and people are giving it the whole "oooohhhs and aaahs" lol

norsmis
01-11-2009, 07:43 AM
the bull morphs are awesome in my opinion. Patternless, anxanthic, white sides.... I love them all!

All my pits were pissy. I had gophers, albino gophers, black pines, northern pines, patternless pines and a pair of bullsnakes. About 18 total. Everyone of them, not a friend. Some worse than others.

Never had one that didnt eat. Cant remember one even refusing a meal. The babies are born huge, hungry and pissed off. Ive had baby northerns leap at my face fresh out of the eggs. They eat though.

When I was feeding baby snakes I always spent a little time. Make sure the food was the right size, make sure the snake grabs it, eats it, doesnt puke it up, etc. When it came to the pits especially the pines it was just throw the food in and leave. They will eat it and no way they will throw it up. They dont give back food that easily.

Even the babies will pin a pinkie to the wall with their body while swallowing another one. Psycho snakes. :D

Bad reaction indeed.

Worst bites Ive gotten have been from rats and hamsters.

With the exception of one big retic and one big nile.

Its fun to watch.

From what I have read pits developed this technique by following rodents into their burrows. The rodents would scramble to escape. So the snake would use its body to pin the mice to the sides of the burrows while it killed and ate them one at time.

Hardcore.

Its very true.... hence the name Gopher snakes! They spend most of their time in gopher burrows looking for food.... many animals inhabit these burrows... field mice, wood rats, rabbits.... lots of food!
