Well folks, my red eastern is no longer with us. I fed him a toad that was a bit oversized the other day. I believe the toads rigid front legs may have done some internal damage. I REALLY thought he'd be able to handle it. I didn't have the heart to do a disection :(. Maybe I better work more on switchin' the other one over to F/T mice soon.

Sorry to hear this Quig... Chalk it up as a lesson buddy... No matter how far we have come in this hobby, a curve ball seems to get thrown in the mix every once in a while... Bad stuff happens to the best of us...

Keep your head up. Good quote to keep you going:
"Show me a person we has never made a mistake, and I will show you a person who has never accomplished much."

Thanks all, I'm fine. I've lost more than a few snakes in my time. Some entirely my fault and some unexplainable. It IS a downside of the hobby.

Thing that irks me the most is I wanted to find a female of the same color and maybe try to build up a population of his color in the area. I'd NEVER seen one that color before. Easterns aren't THAT hard to find here. Maybe I'll get lucky in the future.

See Pete

See Pete kick himself

See Pete kick himself repeatedly for not tryin' to switch that red over long before now.

I just offered the new one a rat pink that had it's nose rubbed in a green tree frogs liver and he took it almost immediately. I'm not real happy with myself right now.

Sorry Quiq... chalk it up to another life lesson and know that the new one should be fine.

Stefan, that's what bothered me the most. I may NEVER find another red one. I believe it was one of a kind. However I still have this slate gray colored one to mess with :D.

am I wrong or did you collect him yourself?...if so go out to the area where you did found him and hope for some siblings

Yes, he was a WC. The area I found him in is an area I frequent quite often and have never seen another one like him. I WILL keep lookin' though :D

A late, late update on the gray one. After the regurge he never recovered. Wouldn't take another meal no matter what I did or how I offered it. He passed within a month of the red one.

Maybe I should switch to westerns :D :dunno:

Nah. You probably did all you could. Only keep doing your best and keep learning from your mistakes as best you can. That's all anyone can do.
