ok... and yet another genetics question.

If you breed Mojave x Mojave you are supposed to get some Blue Eyed Lucys... question is... what are the odds.... or are they all supposed to be BEL?

25% BEL's
50% mojaves
25% normals

Note that each EGG has that % chance of being one of the three.

This may help - click the co-dom's http://www.ballpython.ca/genetics.html

I think its 25% BEL, 25% normals and %50 mojaves

I am going with what the rest of them said. Those stats are per egg not per clutch

What Id like to know is how you take two snakes with a pattern and wind up with a pure white snake with blue eyes.

V, if you think about most co dom animals as hets for the super form it makes it easier. At least to me. So Mojaves are het for BEL. They carry the gene for that but dont express it like a simple recessive animal.

Thanks for the info.

I now have a 1.1 and I got them just to get me a BEL... since they are out of my price range.

25% chance that every egg will be a normal...scary :yessir:

Yep, just as much chance as getting normals as supers  But that's the beauty of it. It wouldn't be as much fun if they would all turn out to be supers all the time.

Good luck with the project Southern Wolf

25% chance that every egg will be a normal...scary :yessir:

Each egg from mojave X mojave has an independent 25% chance of being a normal. The chance that all the eggs in the clutch will hit thier separate 25% chance goes down with the number of eggs. In a 6 egg clutch the chance of getting all normals is only (1/4)^6 = 1 in 4,096.

Things do happen. For instance, we had a spider x normal breeding that gave us 5 eggs.....should be 50/50......however every baby hatched out normal, so those egg percentages are chancy.....

With 50% odds of normal for each egg rather than 25% and only 5 eggs it's not quite as long a shot, only 1 in 32. I had the same thing happen with a normal believed bred by a pastel producing 5 normals (all males too!). Still makes you wonder if you are just that unlucky 1 in 32 ((1/2)^5) or if something unexpected is going on like sperm retention or parthenogenesis. You also occasionally hear of some really long odds around females so maybe there is something about the way they produce eggs that isn't the separate roll of the dice for each that we are expecting.

I've seen it go the other way round too though. 5 out of 5 mojaves in a Mojave x Normal clutch.
Randy ¿have there been any documented cases of parthenogenesis in ball pythons?

I don't think anyone has checked in ball pythons. There is a documented case with a Burmese python.

I SOOO feel you on that. Two clutches of pastel x normal last year with a total of 10 eggs between the two and only 2 pastels. One clutch was all normals.

However, on my breeder loan of my normal bred to a friend's spider, we got 11 eggs, 8 which were spiders (4.4 on top of that!).
