View Full Version : How to diff CB and WC snake? aressjh 01-05-2009, 02:28 AM hi, i would like to that, how to differentiate the captive breed snake and wild caught snake. THX. snakebite 01-05-2009, 03:35 AM wow um thats not that easy to do i mean it depends on alot of things i use this rule of thumb if it looks sick or skinny or unhealthy in anyway dont buy it if a animal looks strong, full bodyed and alert thats the one you go with. i guess after years of experience you get to a point where your knowledgable enough to make a pritty acurate educated guess. i dono anyone else please chime in here hope that awnsers your question erikpaterson 01-05-2009, 07:49 AM its actually not all that easy to tell, as a general rule however, wc snakes tend to have one or more of the following issues: dehydrated some scars/skin issues underweight bitey/wriggly of course any of the above can also be typical of a captive bred animal (depending on its previous circumstances), it can be very difficult to differentiate. you would be better to go to a breeder if you are concerned with regards to buying a WC animal. the WC house snake i have, the only reason to think she was sitting on the side of mount killimanjaro 2/3 months ago is that she is slim and very hyper, otherwise she is just as healthy as any of my captive bred animals FloridaHogs 01-05-2009, 07:54 AM Research the person you are purchasing from. Are they an importer and/or flipper or do they breed their own animals? That is your best tool. JChandler 01-05-2009, 07:59 AM Easiest way is to see if alot of folks have them, if they do then probably it is a cb snake....obscure ones can be found but normally they are not easily found and hell some just have never been produced in captivity despite some real efforts. In general like everyone else said look at the snake except maybe the biter part all the time....depends on the species but alot of babies like boas and colubrids are bitters in the beginning I have found. luciddream 01-05-2009, 12:14 PM I'd suggest to only buy from someone you trust. That way you know that they aren't selling you some WC as a CB animal. Desert 01-05-2009, 12:22 PM Having a historical overview of the captive status of snake species may be of help in some instances. constrictorkeeper 01-05-2009, 01:33 PM there's no textbook answer, as determining factors will never be 100% conclusive, and will vary from species to species. exactly what are you contemplating ? maybe we can help better with more info. ck 147BOAS 01-05-2009, 02:56 PM by an albino chances are an ablino is cb and not wc RichardA 01-05-2009, 06:47 PM Know your seller. 147BOAS 01-05-2009, 07:32 PM Know your seller. that too aressjh 01-05-2009, 08:42 PM hi dudes.... thx u all very much. thx for giving me some guide. When i go get the snake, they are tame. Not so aggressive. can handle. Maybe they still juvenile. ya, will careful their rear fangs. hehe... RichardA 01-06-2009, 08:09 PM Few, very few mangs are CB. If they are juvies then you should have a good shot at getting them going good. I would get them vet checked asap though, just to be on the safe side. |
