View Full Version : Little baby Purples
ddodge 08-27-2011, 08:48 AM This tiny clutch of three is hatching out now. They are the result of a Dedrick purple male to a purplexextreme red female, both het albino. When I showed my son one of them instead of sneaking back into his shell he came darting out of it striking LOL.. I think he's a keeper lol..

AandKReptiles 08-31-2011, 02:22 PM Nice little hoggies. :)
adrianbryce 08-31-2011, 04:47 PM not understanding what a purple line is? is it the a color phase? if so i don't see it.
ddodge 08-31-2011, 09:30 PM Hi Adrian. Thanks for your question, those pics aren't the best depiction seeing as though the snakes are so fresh. It's good to see a couple trained eyes around here though. Thanks you all for the comments.
Purples are a line trait and the way it's usually described is that it's an over abundance of red. So line breeding extreme red hogs will eventually produce purples wich create the reddest albino hogs seen today. I've taken fresh pictures of my purple breeders, babies, and some of my red stuff.
This is my Dedrick line purple male. Sire of the clutch in question.

This is the dam. She's a cross of Dedrick purple and extreme red.

here's the babies starting with a smoking deep red one.

this is a little more purple

and as with everything there's always a rule breaker. A green from the same clutch.

That's the rundown of this particular clutch. Now for some unrelated reds.
Here's a red normal from Justin.

Here's what I would probably call "extreme red" I produced this season unrelated to any others.

This is a picture of the unrelated "extreme red" with one of the above posted purple babies. See the difference now?

To show the strength of the purple genes here are a couple pictures of another clutch with the same sire from above bred to a very bland het albino.
The Dam.

and one of the purple influenced hatchlings. 66% het albino.

Pretty strong gene huh??
I hope that helps with understanding what purples can do.
adrianbryce 09-01-2011, 10:40 AM i see it now. mostly in the markings to the sides of the saddles. thanks for the info.
FloridaHogs 09-01-2011, 11:14 AM But why called purple, when they are not a purple snake.....it is a very confusing name...when I hear "purple line" I expect to see a purple animal, not a mostly red one....guess I just need to see on in person to pick up on the subtleness of this "purple" because I honestly do not see any purple on those animals.....
ddodge 09-01-2011, 11:25 AM It's obvious in person (and I don't think it's all that difficult in these pics personally). The only good pictures I've ever seen of these that actually were able to capture the color have been taken by David.
How are those bengals coming?
adrianbryce 09-01-2011, 11:26 AM I just assume the are referring to maroon as purple. and purple sounds better for marketing, and it's all about marketing.

Lots of set backs...

Well.. So much for trying to post some pictures of some really nice snakes.. This thread needed the negativity i guess..:wamma:

I wasn't insulting your snakes. I think they are beautiful. I just don't think they look purple. I wouldn't mind have some either.
Me saying purple sounds better for marketing wasn't a slight either. I was just stating my opinion. I think purple sounds better. And the marketing thing is just how it is with any snake. Nature of the beast. Not a slight against you or the originators at all. I mean, anacondas dont actually look like anacondas. but it sounds cool. marketing.

Got it. No problem. If you feel like shooting the breeze give a call. 781-507-4182.
For the record I wasn't calling the last hatchling purple. It is a good example of the enhancing effect one does have though.

Actually, the very first conda hogs produced had patterns very similar to an anaconda... Many still come out looking this way... Thats where the name originated... Had less to do with marketing and more to do with the actual look of the animals...
