View Full Version : is it true that 147BOAS 10-16-2008, 02:23 AM a lot of caramel albinos hatch with kinked spines and most breeders put them down. thats what i was told LadyOhh 10-16-2008, 01:58 PM Well... It is true the Caramel Albinos do have a genetic predisposition for kinking. I'm not completely sure how many people put them down because of it, as I know I have seen several out there in person that are pretty bad. But yes, Caramels do kink. Tosha 10-16-2008, 02:02 PM It depends on the kink -- if it's just in the tail or very small then they usually get sold at a discount for the imperfection or held in the collection -- very few breeders keep the severely kinked snakes. Larry 10-17-2008, 08:45 AM I've heard and maybe Phil can shed some light on the subject that Caramels when incubated a little cooler and drier have a far less defect hatch rate. constrictorkeeper 10-17-2008, 10:32 AM about kinked caramels. you'll get all the insight you need. ck Phil 10-17-2008, 11:22 AM I know some have said that and some have tried many different incubation techniques even to maternal incubation but I think it still happens. I dont think they are any different than any other ball and it is just a problem with them like a few other ball morphs..... 147BOAS 10-17-2008, 10:21 PM thanks on youtube ralph davis has all about them i just found it you should see some of those balls with kinks pwilliams58 10-20-2008, 09:49 PM I've heard and maybe Phil can shed some light on the subject that Caramels when incubated a little cooler and drier have a far less defect hatch rate. Wow, I've never heard that, I really hope there is actually something to it. Larry 10-20-2008, 10:11 PM Wow, I've never heard that, I really hope there is actually something to it. Yea I heard that Kevin from Nerd has been incubating them cooler for years with success but that isn't confirmed.. 147BOAS 10-20-2008, 10:32 PM Yea I heard that Kevin from Nerd has been incubating them cooler for years with success but that isn't confirmed.. it would be cool if you could fix the problem with incubating at cooler temps Cornball 10-21-2008, 09:15 AM It is best if you can cross different lines of caramel albinos. This can minimize kinking. 147BOAS 10-21-2008, 02:05 PM It is best if you can cross different lines of caramel albinos. It's just an inevitable thing that's going to happen... Just like the wobble in spiders... Something he said that makes good sense of the subject is: "If you haven't produced a wobble head spider or a kinked caramel you just haven't produced enough or very many..." Sputnik 11-10-2008, 05:56 PM How cool is cooler? I should have a clutch from het to het this season if it goes my way so I will be sure to post my results. I dont plan on incubating them any different than any other eggs as far as temp but I may try to lower the humidity some and see what happens. Like Noah said, 87-88 on temp, crossing lines, and het to het rather than visual to visual is the common thinking. I have a standing cooler type incubator that gets a couple degrees cooler at the bottom -- that is where mine will be. My Mojave SK Het male we be breeding 3 Nerd Hets and 5-6 SK Het girls. I'll pass on specific details of what I get, temps, etc. I am trying not to make a big deal out of it -- don't want to stress:eek:!!! But it doesn't hurt to do everything you can to assure the best possible outcome.:wamma: NoahHart 12-01-2008, 11:29 PM Like Noah said, 87-88 on temp, crossing lines, and het to het rather than visual to visual is the common thinking. I have a SK caramel male that's paired with my mojo female this year. Really hoping for a male. I've also got a het x het caramel breeding this year. I plan on incubating the same as the rest so I will post my results up as well. The more people the better with their temps included might help figure something out. Thanks for the good thoughts Noah and Trevor. I started pairing some stuff tonight -- I have my Mojave Het with a SK Het. He is 18 months old, so age should not be a factor. However, some of these males are just better breeders than others as we all know. If he is half the stud my Butter male is he should be able to make a few gems this season. I have 5 other projects that I am starting this year that will have the Carmel Mojave as their centerpiece in a couple years. If I can hatch a visual male this season I will be of to the races.:wamma: I am making some codom hets with a SWEET Upscale boy that are a little outside the box to say the least. It is a long season and I am looking for rain to roll in soon to get things started. I post some good old SNAKE **** along way:devil::devil::devil: Good locks to everyone!!!! |
