I use UPS. But I ship and receive lizards so its legal.

I like UPS. FedEx has become a big fat pain in the tush. In every way, shape and form. Sorry, I know the snake people pretty much have to use them. Its either that or the airport. But I really hope for the sake of all my snakey pals that UPS finally sees the light and starts accepting snakes.

I know that Rich Ihle has been using UPS for a while now. I hope that UPS starts their program soon!

One thing to remember is that there ARE breeders out there who ship UPS, and do it legally. From what I understand, UPS used to allow the shipping of snakes, and anyone who was certified to do it before they stopped allowing it can still do it. So basically they're trying to convince UPS to give the general public that option once again.

FloridaHogs

That is correct. Those breeders were "grandfathered" in and the new policy did not apply to them.

Robyn said that as of today PRO EXOTICS is the only company that is legally allowed to ship snakes with UPS .

Except for the grandfathered companies, which UPS does not like to talk about.

thats funny because acr are also ups certified to ship live non venomous snakes and so are a few others that were grandfathered in so PRO EXOTICS are NOT the only legal shippers of non venomous reptiles of ups.

Where does it say on that page that they are the ONLY ones shipping with UPS? I appreciate what PE is trying to do with UPS, opening up a cert type program for everybody, but they know very well they aren't the only ones shipping with UPS and for them to say something like that would be silly. I don't see it on the page, though, so is this something Robyn said elsewhere?

Well got a response from UPS. This is the initial response (my original email is at the bottom.

Response (Latisha Perry) 01/08/2009 03:51 PM
Dear Jenea,

Thank you for your question. UPS can accept certain live animals for U.S. domestic transportation, including Alaska and Hawaii, on a limited basis. This service is currently not offered to or from Puerto Rico, or international locations.

Packages containing live animals must be prepared in accordance with specific packaging requirements. This is to ensure the humane care and safety of the animal during transportation. Live animals will only be accepted for transportation when shipped via UPS Next Day Air service, Monday through Thursday, and not on Friday or Saturday.

Live animals that are prohibited from being shipped and are not accepted for transportation include, but are not limited to:

- Any mammal: Examples: dogs, cats, etc.
- Any poisonous, venomous or threatening animal
- Any Threatened or Endangered species
- Arachnids (All): Examples: mites, scorpions, spiders, ticks
- Birds (All)
- Crocodiles (All): Examples: alligators, caimans, gavials
- Obnoxious Insects: Examples: flies, locusts, mosquitoes, roaches, termites, weevils
- Snakes (All): venomous and non-venomous

What is your question or comment? I have been made aware of a pilot program being test concerning the shipping of non-venomous snakes. I am also aware of customers that were grandfathered in and are currently allowed to ship such animals. My question is, how can I become part of this program. I am willing to go through whatever package testing you would require. I currently am only able to ship with FedEx, as are many small time breeders, and would much prefer to give you my business. Thankyou for your time. Jenea Wood

Ms. Perry,

I am quite aware what your standard TOS are concerning harmless snakes. I am also quite aware that there is a pilot program with Pro Exotics allowing them to ship harmless snakes. Also, that customers that had accounts with UPS before the no snake policy went into effect, where "grandfathered" in and allowed to continue shipping their snakes with UPS. What I am asking is if I can participate in the pilot program or in someway be allowed to give you my business versus your competitor. I am asking for
your help.

Sincerely,

Jenea Wood

Thought I would keep everybody up to date. Maybe if we all wrote in asking about shipping harmless snakes, it would get their attention. We should flood their mailbox.

Jenea, nice job on the letter.

Im sad that they wont accept my mites for shipment, LOL! I was gonna send you a box full but now I guess you wont get them!

I also like the term "obnoxious insects". Thats precious. Although I dont find weevils obnoxious. Bold? Perhaps. Maybe even haughty. But obnoxious? Hardly.
