View Full Version : Pied-sided bloodred cornsnake genetics?
Melanie 01-09-2009, 10:57 PM Can somebody please tell me what they know about em? I've only ever seen the trait in bloodreds. Have there been any other morphs with the pied gene? Also, I'm sure I read somewhere that it's a random trait? Is this true?
JChandler 01-09-2009, 11:11 PM As far as the last I heard it is a random thing that only pops up from time to time with no rhyme or reason....someone may have cracked it but I haven't read about it yet if they did.
Melanie 01-09-2009, 11:16 PM Thanks for the input!
norsmis 01-10-2009, 07:23 AM It seems to be tied to the bloodred gene..... I havent been keeping up with corns lately but from what I know this is the case....
Varanus99 01-10-2009, 07:31 AM Pied sided?
Sounds cool. Can I see what that looks like somewhere?
JChandler 01-10-2009, 08:09 AM This is really the best picture I have seen of them, UK forum I think but I just look at the pics....

I like'em :yessir:
norsmis 01-10-2009, 08:12 AM Sorry Bro, couldnt find a good pic for ya... Thanks Jeff!
Varanus99 01-10-2009, 08:15 AM Its interesting. So if you were to breed two of these bloodred pied guys together you might not get any pied offspring? Its just random?

Tom Thompson has a nice breeding group of these guys and has produced them in 08 with some predictability. I am sure there are others out there but I think most are keeping them on the DL for some reason..... I think its a simple recessive tied to the bloodred gene myself... but I have no personal experience with them.....

I also believe it is a simple recessive tied to certain blood genes, problem is the mess that corns have become to just pull out one thing or another.
If I had a breeding group that was producing them I wouldn't tell no one either, personally I would be trying to unlock the gene to be able to reproduce them with regularity.
I have seen one pied side in person at a show a few years back, price tag was $1500 I believe at the time and that wasn't unreasonable even for a corn, unproven gene or not.

Absolutely! They are stunning to say the least. I have seen some ghost bloods het pied around also... talk about a project!!!
FloridaHogs 01-10-2009, 09:16 AM Thanks for the link Jeff, that is one hot looking corn!
That is a great looking cornsnake.
Melanie 01-11-2009, 12:43 AM Thanks for the responses, guys! That'd be really the only cornsnake breeding project I'd really be interested in doing. I think they're freakin gorgeous!
twreptiles 03-09-2009, 10:41 PM As far as I know the pied gene is very random and is a bloodred specific trait. As far as recessive, I don't think it's that simple. Theirs definately something going on here, but I have no idea what it is. Although the trait is specific to bloodreds, I have seen some bloodred crosses that exhibit the white sides. The piedsided bloodreds are amazing and I hope to add some to my collection this season.
