I am a cobra fanatic! Who here has some nice naja to show off? Most of the threads I've been looking through are all vipers (which are still awesome!) but surely someone has to have some cobras :)

We were at NERD last night and I got to hold the non-business end of Kevins 9' female king cobra. She's a venomoid and tame as a puppy but damn I still don't quite trust that! Patrick Long 01-12-2009, 01:47 AM Man.....this thread is gonna get me in trouble!!! JOHNS6068 01-12-2009, 01:50 AM Love the cobra pic's guys :yourock: Southern Wolf 01-12-2009, 01:57 AM I will never work with... or keep a venomoid. Why would you do that... oh yeah.. so you can say your cool... and MAYBE live thru a bite because you have no business with a hot to begin with. Sorry..... but those types of people just rub me the wrong way. Ive worked with Kings.. that are as nature intended them to be. 147BOAS 01-12-2009, 02:03 AM I will never work with... or keep a venomoid. Sorry..... but those types of people just rub me the wrong way. Ive worked with Kings.. that are as nature intended them to be. i have to agree with you :yessir: Sylvias 01-12-2009, 07:22 PM i dunno Kev... I have always been against venomoids but then I thought about how iI would like to include a cobra in educational talks I want to give eventually... and thought.... it would be alot easier to handle a snake and talk to the audiance if I knew it was voided....doesn't mean the audiance has to know... and of course i would only get it done by a liscenced vet who can do it professionally.... but that would only be ONE animal and all my others would be regularly dangerous. norsmis 01-12-2009, 07:37 PM NIce pics Kev! THat one with the venom coming out is awesome!!!! Southern Wolf 01-12-2009, 07:45 PM but here is the problem Sylvias... doesnt matter IF it is done by someone qualified or not... they have been PROVEN to regenerate. There are video's over at the Kentucky Reptile Zoo site that proves this. You should treat ALL venomous as Deadly Hot.... I dont care if its just a copper or someones sick joke of taking out the venom glands. They are still hot. Freehandling them is NOT an option. Southern Wolf 01-12-2009, 07:45 PM NIce pics Kev! THat one with the venom coming out is awesome!!!! That only took me like 30 some odd trys.... they have ALOT of venom Sylvias 01-12-2009, 08:10 PM but here is the problem Sylvias... doesnt matter IF it is done by someone qualified or not... they have been PROVEN to regenerate. There are video's over at the Kentucky Reptile Zoo site that proves this. You should treat ALL venomous as Deadly Hot.... I dont care if its just a copper or someones sick joke of taking out the venom glands. They are still hot. Freehandling them is NOT an option. The ones that have been proven to grow back are usually the ones done wrong. None have ever replaced their glands when done properly (like the ones at venomoid inc) were they remove the entire gland and duct and replace it with a silicone implant, kinda hard to grow back around an implant.... and i'm not saying i would treat it at all differently, i would need to make my audiance believe it still had its venom now wouldnt i? Southern Wolf 01-12-2009, 08:37 PM Just keep thinkin that way. The moment you think you can handle a venomoid as it was a colubrid... no matter who does the surgery.... then you will most likely end up dead... and even if you dont.... you have lost my respect. Why would you take a chance. It has been proven to grow back... even if you just leave a small sliver of the gland or duct work. Like I said.... go check out the videos from the KY Reptile Zoo.... they did some tests on supposed Venomoids.... and they werent. The heads were sunken in because the gland had been removed.... but they were still producing. These vidoes showed either 2 or 3 different cobras that had the surgury producing venom. I wouldnt trust a supposed venomoid any farther than I could throw it.... cause what happens is you get in the mindset... oh its a venomoid.. it cant hurt me... and then you get lax in your precautions. Then you get bit... and I hope like hell it hasn't regenerated anything. I wish I could remember where I saw the info... but a zoo keeper was working with a venomoid cobra (freehandling it DOH)... and then threw a mouse in with the cobra.... cobra struck the mouse and a few minutes later the mouse was dead.... and the zoo keeper turned white as a sheet. (just a basic summary of the story) Sylvias you know I trust Bobby (my mentor) with my life... he has been keeping hots for over 10 years now... and has his Masters in Herps... he will soon be going for his PhD in herps.... well he trusts the KY Reptile Zoo enough to loan them his animals for extraction and research.... therefore I trust the info coming from the KY Reptile Zoo. Please dont fall into the trap of.... its a venomoid... it cant hurt me. Sylvias 01-12-2009, 08:57 PM I know, kevin, like i said, i would still treat it as any other venomous, it would be a simple precaution for me and my audiance when i do eventually get around to doing educational talks. go check out www.venomoidinc.com i've been researching all over that site and asking random questions alot lately, they are pretty reliable as far as I can tell... Please keep in mind that IF i ever got a venomoid it would only be ONE and only for educational talks, thats it. NOT to free handle and show off or anything. Southern Wolf 01-12-2009, 09:06 PM Dont get bit Sylvias 01-12-2009, 09:15 PM If i do it will probably be because i'm being stupid with one of the ones that hasn't been voided *rolls eyes* You know this is a long time in the future Kevin, don't lose respect for me already when I haven't even found a mentor to do training under yet... CanebrakeCowboy 01-12-2009, 09:34 PM i do not keep non native hots, but my buddy i share a facility with does....here's his axantic....he bred to his daughter this year, so we are hoping he proves genetic....the daughter is also het albino, but he is more interested in producing more axantics rather than snows..... http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n203/CanebrakeCowboy/axanticmonocle3.jpg Sylvias 01-12-2009, 09:58 PM *drools* i saw that one somewhere before, LOVE the axanthics!!! so gorgeous CanebrakeCowboy 01-13-2009, 12:17 PM yea....we've had him on display at hamburg and the columbia shows......
