View Full Version : Sterilite Tubs
Wild Bill 01-11-2009, 04:19 PM I thought I would transfer the tub information into the forums before it's lost. Animal Plastics racks use the 1752, 1754 and 1756. As most of you know Sterilite has discontinued some of these tubs and some are hard to find. The 1752 is hard to find, but the 1851 (Walmart) can be used in its place. The 1754 has been discontinued and replaced by the 1753 (exclusively at Target). The 1756 has also been discontinued and replaced by the 1755 (exclusively at Target). The new 1753 and 1755 have latches on them, which are easily removed. The tub then has a small gap (see picture below) that is 1/16" in size. As far as I can tell, this won't be a problem as long as your rack doesn't have a large gap. I have a 1754(10 shelf) Animals Plastics rack on order and will post more info when it comes. I am picking up some 1755 tubs this week and will post pics of the gap on them as well.

FloridaHogs 01-11-2009, 04:52 PM Good infor. You can always run a bead of silicone in the gab if it is a problem.

Thanks!! Just hoping to save some people some time, I've spent plenty lately trying to figure out how everything is going to work. :yessir:
anendeloflorien 01-11-2009, 07:49 PM Hmmm, good stuff man :) I'll have to save that info for later use
never a dull moment with these sterilite and rubbermaid people!. !'ve seen the 1754 and 1756 discontinued thing coming for a long time. Every time I went to Target they had less and less of them
geesh, if they only knew how much they AFFECTED the reptile industry every time they changed a tub!

Yeah, hopefully they don't keep messing with them.
Wild Bill 01-21-2009, 01:42 AM Ok, I got the 1755 tubs from Target. They have the same exact gap as the 1753 pictured above. It's just a 1/16" and doesn't look like it will be a problem. Since it is the same I'm not going to post another picture. I will update this thread when my rack from AP gets here. :yessir:
PS. If you plan on ordering racks with these tubs, start getting them now. Target isn't the greatest about keeping a lot on hand.

Clay Davenport 01-30-2009, 02:37 PM Yeah, hopefully they don't keep messing with them.
Unfortunately I'm sure they will. They've changed their tub designs every 3 or 4 years for as long as I can remember, for no reason that I can see other than the sake of changing them. A little shorter and a little wider, or some other small change that just makes them non interchangeable with the previous design in a rack.
That's why I like Iris tubs, they haven't changed their dimensions in longer than I can remember.
If you're using sterilite or Rubbermaid tubs of any sort I would recommend you get plenty of spares because I guarantee a plastic rack will outlast any current design by many years and 5 years from now when you crack a tub you'll be glad to have some extras on hand, because they won't be available any longer then.
Targets near me have the small one on sale right now. $3.99 instead of $4.99. I bought 24 for my new AP racks arriving soon.....
Wild Bill 02-05-2009, 06:47 PM As promised, pics of the tub in the rack. The gap is just barely larger than the 1/16" in the rack, not even worth worrying about an animal escaping. Unless your keeping little worms in there.

Did you ask anyone if they had them in the back? I noticed the one Target here doesn't keep all of them out on the shelf, they only put out a few. If you can't find anyone to get them, I could go and get them from here. Let me know. :yessir:
