Jayne_Dough 12-09-2011, 05:01 PM I have wondered the same thing since I first heard of this a while back. Idk if they will make exceptions for animal heat products, but I highly doubt it.
The CFL's don't produce heat, just light so, no, they would be of no real benifit to reptiles. For display they'll be fine, but otherwise no. You'll need to switch to UTHs or heat panels, or both :dunno:
"Beginning in January 2012, the 100-watt incandescent light bulb will no longer be legally produced in the United States."

As far as I know all of the reptile heat bulbs are produced in China.

So they will continue to allow the usage of them? That wasn't the impression I got when this all started a couple years ago. :dunno:

Reading the article it doesn't seem to say that they wouldn't be allowed to import them. And, for now it looks like it's only the 100 watt, and I don't know if it would apply to the reptile lighting or not, as it actually is made differently.. :dunno:

Yeah I have no clue at all just seen that and started to wonder about the reptiles that do use heat bulbs.

It never dawned on me that they might be made somewhere else. Where was MY brain, right? I do hope you're right.

Nothing wrong with your brain, it's just that as a woman, mine is always looking for the loophole. :lmao::cheers:
I heard they will still make outdoor halogen floods. As long as they are at least 45-50 watt the monitor folks like me-self should be okay.

asplundii 12-12-2011, 08:38 AM The CFL's don't produce heat, just light so
CFLs do produce heat, just not as much heat per lumen as an incandescent. I run 250W equivalent CFLs over my GTP tank and those give off some descent heat, about as much as a 75W incandescent...
joe23 12-14-2011, 02:01 PM we have had the same here. it just started a bit earlier. 2 years ago we couldnt buy 100watt bulbs anymore. then the 80, 60 and soon 40s were/ will be banned.
BUT this doesnt affect us reptile guys. we can still buy they lights we could buy 5 years ago in all reptile shops and on shows.
tyler.beez 12-16-2011, 11:02 PM I believe some of the specialty lights will be excluded from this bill (read it somewhere a while back), not 100% sure though.:dunno:
