Hell Mike, that's big enough for ME to live in :D. Which is part of why I don't do monitors. Between the housing and the feed bill I'd go broke in a month. It looks impressive though

Awesome.
Okay, I'm a plumber of over 15 years both residential and industrial. Mind sharing some secrets? I have thought about something like that before.

It is a one piece bathtub (for new builds).

For the side and back walls I hand troweled 100% brown silicone on, then broadcasted the ochid bark on and pressed it in.
Ads more surface area for them to climb on.
This is my 5th one I've built.
I have also used one piece shower stalls.

This one was for my V.Prasinus.

Can I just add....how BRILLIANT this is!!

I had planned on buying my tree monitors "permanent" enclosure at the next expo, but I think I'm going to follow your lead & build one [ looking at doing one from a shower stall ]

GENIUS!!

Any tips?? ;) ~

Thank you!
Forgeddaboutit, most if not all "ready" made cages are no good for Monitors!
Sure with some modification you can use any caging, but there will always be some issues...for example size.
The BIG plus with these as Monitor enclosures is they will never rot out from moist substrate or humidity.

I am assuming you were thinking a 1.1 pair in a shower stall unit?
The price difference between a bathtub and shower stall unit is not that much.
I would go with the bathtub...unless space is your issue.

The best tip I could give you is to look for one with a scratch or other imperfection, you can get them at a greatly reduced price.

When you go to the store wear your steel toe boots just in case there are none with any damage ;)

Keep in touch Brother, I'd be glad to help you.
Merry Christmas to all!

Yeah, 1.1 green trees! [ well, hopefully 1.1! ] Still youngens right now, so the 36lx18wx36h was suppose to buy me time to get their "adult" set-up ;)

Size is the main concern. Our house has a very awkward layout, despite having a decent amount of sqft, the layout is mostly dead-space. [ as an example, the kitchen, foyer, & living room are alltogether! no walls :( ] otherwise I would LOVE to do the bathtub!

lol, steel toe boots. Got it

The main problem I'm having trying to figure out is how you got a door on there? Did you use a unit like this (http://www.homedepot.com/Bath-Bath-Tubs-Showers-Whirlpool-Tubs-Showers-Shower-Stalls-Shower-Kits/h_d1/N-5yc1vZbza7/R-202508745/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053)?

Thanks a ton Mike! Really, I can't say it any more, GENIUS! haha
Merry Christmas! ~

No those multipule piece panel systems suck!
If you did use one of those there is some framing you'd need to do, and there is always a chance for leaks in the panel seams.
Next time your in Home Depot look for the ONE PIECE UNITS (for new builds).
For the one piece shower stalls you have to build your own door, no problem though!
Merry Christmas Brother.

*Rubs hands together*

It is so on......... I run across scratched and chipped one-piece showers every now and then. Sometimes it's cheaper to replace them than have a fiberglass repair done. I may just visit some of my local plumbing supply houses and see what damaged one piece tub/shower combos might be laying around.

You can also cruise any residential job sites or new subdivisions and there may be damaged tub/showers there. If the holes for the shower valve and spout have been drilled out, you may have to patch or get creative and use the hole for access to an add-on hide box.
Personally I think I would stay away from showers stalls and go just for tub/shower combos. That tub is a good depth for the dirt needed. You can only get 3-4 inches in a shower but a tub/shower is well over 1ft deep.

Was actually thinking about making a bigger "lip" to where we would build the door anyway. This would let us have a good amount of dirt in there.

Really wish I could do the bathtub one tho. It's just so....GLORIOUS. haha ~

Look at the "base" of my shower enclosure...
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh45/MikesMonitors/prasinusenclosure.jpg
I siliconed a piece of plexi to the bottom 16" high.
I used it as a water reservoir, or it could be filled with substrate.

You could also make this bottom area as high or low as you want.

That's the thing I like about glass or acrylic. You can see through it and see the moisture content of your soil. You can also cover the glass with cardborad or anything to block the light and the monitors will tunnel up to it. Gotta put a light-blocker though or when they see light excavating they will turn around and back fill or collapse that part of the hole.
