so I have been interested in these two species for a long time and a pair of White lipped pythons are actually the first breeder pair i want to get when i move out. So who here keeps white lips? I've searched alot online and there doesn't seem to be a ton of info out there on their husbandry, the same with black heads...though i have not looked quite so extensively for those yet.
Anyways, anyone with pics and tips please share :D

Hello, I am not sure if I had a choice to get my first pair of pythons if I would pick WLP's or Blackheads. They are both great snakes but if they are your first pythons that you want to try and breed they can be a little difficult. Also the WLP's can be a little feisty! You may want to get your feet wet with some spotted's, carpets or balls. They best thing for successfully keeping and breeding your snakes is trial and error. If you do a search in Google for either one you get lots of information. Just read through it and pick out what makes sense and see what works for you and your snakes! :D

Wow Tom that is an awesome sight! I have kept a few WL and loved them. I had one male that was an absolute puppy dog. Wish I still had him. Its really cool to see the cop, egg and pipping pics.

Those WL's are absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for sharing those Tom. What type of set up do you house the adults in?

Thanks! I keep them in the old Neodasha 3 foot square cages with shelves and upper hide boxes in the back.

I'm with Tom on the original response. I would not dive into white lips as a 'starter' python unless you have countless hours around them already logged. It's one thing to think you are prepared for 'feisty' or 'a challenge', it's another to have a fast, hard-hitter in hand. Always better to build up some experience before taking on the 'intermediate' species.

Hot pics, as always, Tom!!

Cheers,
Kat

I love the WLP!! I want to try my hand with either those or blacks.. But I'm going to wait until I have at least 5 yrs breeding balls under my belt before stepping up to either of those two... Good luck with whichever you choose..

see the problem is the only place i have ever seen a white lip is at the daytona show, i can't exactly build experiance when no one else has them...

dont build experience with white lips build experience with other python species , white lips are a handfull ive got a buddy of mine that keeps macklots, gtp's and carpets scrubs and a nile monitor and he got a whitelip and traded it for somthing else cuz he wasnt ready for it there nasty little buggers i would have to agree and grow into them as it were just my 2 cents good luck with it

i have delt with alot of different pythons and other snakes, but not owned anything other than a corn king so far.... if the temperment is the only thing making the difficult to keep though i think i can overcome that. usually my worries come with space and cost or if something is really finicky and MUST have absalute perfect temps and humidity within like .001 of a degree of percent... but if it's just attitude..it's a minor challenge :D

http://jetpythons.com/headscratch.gif Seems like I have a friend that has what you are calling a White Lip 'cept he calls them D'alberts -- are they the same or am I mixed up in the head.

You may be mixed up in the head, but not about Leiopython albertisii, AKA White Lipped Python, AKA D' Alberts.

Oh that is good news -- I thought perhaps it was time to start the meds again -- they are cool creatures -- but I'm not much for getting tagged -- too girlie I guess.
