It is not dry. It is supposed to have the perfect amount of moisture but I have heard several people say it needed some water toward the end of incubation.

A bag of it can be dry at the top and dampish towards the bottom, don't use it anymore (Have used a few bags in the past) but prefer vermiculite myself.

Used it just fine, bit perelite is cheaper, so I went back to it.

I used it on leo eggs. Worked fine, but, as Jenea said, it is expensive. I've gone back to vermiculite.

I used it on MHD eggs but because they take so long to hatch I had to add water. Went back to pearlite.

For those of you who said you liked it, what did you use it on? Did you have to add water? Is there and experation date?

I would also like to know if you need to add water becuase its dry does not feel moist. I thought it was supposed to be slightly moist like it will clump together??? Thanks andrew

It won't clump, and it can feel dry to the fingertips. I would put the back of my hand on it, and could feel that it was slightly moist.

I used Press & Seal on top of my tubs before putting the lid on. I'd check the eggs weekly, and if they started to dimple any before the final 2 weeks of incubating, I simply added a tablespoon of water in each corner of the tub and it was golden.

I used it last year and will likely use it again this year.

Used it on tricolor eggs which incubate 80 to 100 days. Never had to add water. I use sealed gladware containers, that I opened once a week for air exchange.

It sounds like Hatch Rite is what I need for my Spotted Python eggs. I did my first clutch on vermiculite and I lost every egg. First they began to dimple in. Then I added water and they started to mold. I'm using a vermiculite perilite mix on my second clutch and it doesn't seem to bad. I had a little problem with the eggs dimpling in, I thnk I need a more air tight container. Anyone have any tips?

Never used it, this year I think I'm going to try putting the eggs above water using light diffusers to keep them out of the water, we'll see how that works.

I got a couple of sample bags at a show, but waited too long to use them. They were completely dry when opened. Perhaps the bags got punctured somehow.

I was wondering how this stuff did for python eggs... I may try it if I get any eggs... I'm going to incubate the eggs drier than what is called for... Larry and BT talked about that last night on the show.. You can always add but not take away.

i can buy big bags of perilite and vermiculite at work but im glad to hear peoples opinion on the product as for geting the mix right im gonna try the wet vermiculite and the grate over it with the eggs on the grate that seems to work for greg maxwell and anthony capinetto for the gtp and carpets might even work for other species

some of the products they come up with irittate me hatch right it would have to mean they can keep the right humidity in every home in the us.... and in every bag no its just another medium to put the eggs on just like perilite and vermiculite. and they charge you through the roof for it thats like heat pads i was gonna but a heat pad pre wired and all of that for an 11in by 12 inch its 50 dollers... its 3.50 at bean farm with out the wire and the wires like 99 cents ... ( ok sorry ranting and on a different subject matter sorry haha

Use a crate on top of the vermiculite or perlite and you wont have to even worry about the eggs drying or being to wet. Just soak the medium and place the crate on top.

I have great success with it for Ball Pythons, Leopard Geckos, Bearded Dragons, Borneos, all kinds of things. Less worry, I love it.

I do not like Hatch Rite. I lost at least one egg in each clutch last year. I will not use it again.

What I would like to know as well.....one egg per clutch does not seem to indicate a medium problem.
