View Full Version : back up power chrisr9240 01-14-2009, 07:17 PM Ok so my recent misfortune (read bad day in swamp snakes) with loosing one of my new blood pythons brought up the ? how many of you have back up power for your racks in case of power loss Southern Wolf 01-14-2009, 07:38 PM I dont yet.... but Im looking into the Guardian system...that hooks directly into your house and runs off propane.... it will set you back around 5 grand JOHNS6068 01-14-2009, 07:43 PM For back-up I a wood/coal stove as well a generator. janeothejungle 01-14-2009, 08:20 PM We have one of these http://www.dom.com/products/generators/bs_8000.jsp But we also don't have snow or frequent power outages... Cheers, Kat luciddream 01-14-2009, 09:07 PM We've got a small portable gas generator to hook the racks up to, but that's it. I'd like to get something better that can handle some more stuff, but that's probably not gonna happen soon. Phil 01-14-2009, 10:20 PM I am looking into a permanent system but I have been real lucky so far. I do have kerosene heaters if needed for the snake room and a fireplace upstairs for the house...... FloridaHogs 01-14-2009, 10:26 PM Generator that plugs directly into the house. It can run everything but the AC, and we have a portable one so that is not a problem. The Guardian is great, provided your gas lines stay good. After Ivan a lot of the gas lines were ruptured because of uprooted trees. tfs 01-14-2009, 10:33 PM We only have a fireplace and a propane portable . I need to look into a small generator . We are all electric here on everything . Toni anendeloflorien 01-14-2009, 11:08 PM My parents have a generator for the all too frequent power outages here during the winter. During the last ice storm when we lost power for about a week I had all the balls in tubs in a circle around their propane fireplace which kept them at a tolerable 80 degrees and got us through it all. The only reason I did that though is because we didn't run the generator all night so the racks would have been freezing all night long. Roswellboa.net 01-15-2009, 12:03 AM I'm looking into getting a generator, wired to my house electrical... Out where I am, there are some pretty nasty storms that come through in the summer...winter can do damage as well... I've had this subject on my mind for a while now...with as cold as it gets in the winter, I'd be in some big trouble if I lost power...I have a gas heater, but it needs electricity to run...heat won't even come on, if the power goes down... JoshJP7 01-15-2009, 06:26 AM I use a battery back up made for big business servers... Mine is made by American Power Supply and I was told it should be able to keep my tubs heated for atleast 3 days b/c they put out such low wattage. I've never had to use it in the winter but if needed I could always hook up my oil based space heater to keep the room temps up. They are a little pricey but for short term power outages 500$ is much better than 5,000$ xanaxez 01-15-2009, 06:41 AM i have a 10,000 watt generator just for power outages. seems the small township i live in has alot of these during summer and winter due to no one wanting to replace the old power lines. Mrs. Sputnik 01-15-2009, 10:15 AM Fireplace right now but want a generator soon |
