This thread may be long, for the sake that this project will probably take a year to get the final product. But, here is where we are so far. The actual construction will actually start after we return from NARBC Dallas (February 14th Valentines Day).

Alright Tim, you know were gonna need a full DIY write-up with step by step pics...........so we can all put up a dream building! Haha! But in all seriousness, I've built quite a few CB70 racks from your plans - which are awesome by the way.

Good luck with everything..............that's very exciting!

What are the overall outside dimensions on the building? Different rooms for different species? Good luck with it.

Thanks for all of the comments. I am glad to see this thread may get a good following. As I warned, it is going to be a long one.

Thanks for the luck Bruce. The building is 40' x 50' with 12' walls (roof is a 4:12 pitch). There are three exterior doors and a 10' x 10' insulated roll-up garage door. There will be 5 rooms. A main room for adult Ball Pythons, a baby room, a rodent room, a garage/storage room and an office that will also include a full bath and incubator. I did a drawing of the building in google Sketch-up. I'll see if I can figure out a way to get it loaded on here.

Okay, I think this will work for the building plans. I had started to label some stuff, but I did not finish. Just ask if anyone has any questions.

Thanks everyone. I wish I was a bit more excited, butthe Port-o-Potty made it here today, but I got the run around from the construction crew, and they didn't make it today. Weather may put them off for a few more days, so I might have to wait until next week to get some real progress done. I will be putting up some pics soon (hopefully).

I am thrilled to see that everyone is as excited as me about this. The building is actually finished, but I had a daughter Basketball game to go to tonight, and couldn't get a pic before sunset. I will get a pic in the morning. It will be a bit slow from here, as the next couple steps are underground plumbing, electric and cable. Then we have sand delivery and concrete. However, I will be updating even though it may be a bit boring.

Stay tuned for tomorrow.

You and me both, but we live in sunny California bro. What is it with the rest of the country….does everyone live on huge hunks of land and have plenty of money to build extra buildings for reptiles?? :dunno::cheers:

Well the updates have been slow right now, because this is the boring stage. However, the plumber finally got here yesterday and did his underground work. I also cut trenches on Tuesday, and started burying the conduit for the electrical service, cable service and the water supply. The two trenches in the pic are for electric and cable. You can't see the water supply trench as it is to the right in the pic. Hopefully I will be getting sand delivered next week, and the cement crew will come to form up for concrete pouring and we will hopefully have concrete in about 2-3 weeks. I do have a couple of inspections to pass before that, but I think those will go well. Here's the pics.

Thanks for all of the responses. After fighting with the building company for over a month, I finally have cement poured. I will get some pics of that soon, and post them up. Electrical should be coming soon, as well as some framed walls in the interior, so that we can start electrical and plumbing rough ins. Hopefully the updates will start coming a bit more often, and be a bit more interesting.

Mike,
The company is Mallett Buildings out of Iowa, Louisiana. They don't have models, but build each building to your specs. I do believe the smallest building they will sell is 30' x 30', and unless the building is very large, they pretty much only service neighboring states. They do have a website though. Google them.

Tim,

I sure wish I had a company with prices like that out here. A 30 x 30 only running $9000 with a slab is not bad priced. How do you plan on insulating the perimeter walls?

muddoc
04-28-2012, 12:48 PM
Mike,
The perimeter walls and roof have bubble insulation already in place prior to the metal being installed. Therefore they already have insulation. However, I will be installing R-13 fiberglass insulation in all of the walls that I will be constructing as well. You should see that coming up in future updates.

While things have been moving slowly, we finally got the cement poured and the first load of materials I picked up yesterday. The plan is to work in the building all day Sunday. So, I should get some more pics posted Sunday night or Monday. Thanks again for looking.

As stated, the updates should start coming weekly now, unless we have a snake show, and I have no weekend for building work. It doesn't look like much, but here is the days work. We got the meter pan and breaker box mounted, which took a little while cutting the nipple through the wall and siliconing it and aligning the boxes. But, it's done now. Then we spent a bit of time marking the floor for all of the walls and doors. Then I made an adjustment to the hallway width and had to change the opening there. At any rate, we got the bathroom completely framed, except for a very small piece in the back corner behind where the toilet goes. The long wall is where the end of the office goes, and is also the exterior wall for the storage area. The next thing we will do is connect the long wall as seen now to the far wall, completely boxing in the office (two doorways to build in that wall. Then I will frame up the incubator.

Small bits of work will get done during the week, but probably not much, so the next major work will probably be next Friday and Sunday. More updates coming next week.

This pick is looking from the office through the door that leads into the storage area. The breaker box can be seen on the far wall, and the bathroom is on the right.
http://www.baileyreptiles.com/pics/building10.jpg

This picture is looking at the bathroom from what will be the main Ball room. The bathroom door is in front of you, and the office to the right. The incubator will be between me (in this pid) and the bathroom.
