I have in the past and it has turned out okay for me but I also won't loan out anything to someone I don't know really well. I personally try to avoid it because lets face it they are animals that are unpredictable and if I have someone else's animal that dies I would feel responsible even if there wasn't anything that I could have done to stop it.

Only with close friends. I have given a male here and there to people I that I thought I could trust and never see the male again.

I get asked a lot at shows. It is wierd. People are like I have a female ball you want to breed it for me lol

I had a good experience with a breeding loan with a good friend of mine. he loaned me a 5 year old female ot breed with my pastel. all went well and had a 6 egg clutch too bad only one pastel but it was a female.

It all went well but was very nerve racking caring for someone elses animal. I doubt I'd do it again just cause like jeff said i dont want to worry about something happening to an animal that isnt mine.

even though I do techniqually have a breeder loan gargoyle Gecko male in my house right now.;)

I haven't done a loan in years. I'm happy with what I got out of the last one but after I got part of the loan I found out my part could have been a better looking animal. I sent out a light colored to be bred by a screaming yellow lemon. I got my male lemon but when I visited the breeder a few months later , I found out he was running the better looking females to his high end stuff and used the darker / drabber females for his lemon breeding. If the light female I had sent had been bred my male lemon could've been much lighter with less if any brown at all.

I'm engaged in my first one right now. I only thought about it because one day when I was talking with the individual and he was telling me about how he had a great system with a contract and I also put alot of trust in this guy too. I actully approached him about taking one of my animals because his system sounded so good. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

My first year that I had the morphs (specifically my albino and pastel males) I had some friends that I offered to let them breed their girls for them - they brought over their girls, they knocked them up -- the girls went home laid their eggs and produced some beautiful babies. I did this as well the following year. Very happy with how things worked out.

After the first great success I decided not only to redo that but I'd had a bunch of normal females that I wasn't using for the season and worked out a deal with a known breeder - excellent reputation. I sent him 5 females in September 06 and didn't hear from him again until July of 07 when I emailed to see how things were going. Per our agreement he'd keep the animals until July to make sure they either dropped eggs or ovulated so I wasn't really pestering him for updates.

Anyway -- He said only one female produced eggs and there was one morph produced but it wasn't something he'd bred her to so she must have been gravid when I shipped her. He said he'd ship the small clutch with my females back to me the following week. But then I didn't hear from him for two more weeks. When I did he said that one of the females died and he'd send me a replacement female. When I asked him what happened to the female he wouldn't tell me just said he'd disposed of her body so he couldn't send it back for necropsy.

Long story short - I got back the females and they all looked horrible -- they were all 200 grams (or more) less than what they were when I sent them to him the prior year - they looked like they were somewhat emaciated or that they had in fact laid eggs and were recovering their shape - after weighing them and taking some picts I stuck them in QT to warm up and settle in - within a few days three of them were showing signs of RIs.

Needless to say it was a disappointing mess and the reason why I'll never do another loan again. At least not with my animals going out.

I would be afraid of bringing something back to my collection. For those that do loans I would highly recommend a quarantine when the animal returns or the animal you have taken in. For me its not worth the risk!

I have done it. Both good and bad experiences. Just make sure you trust the person you are dealing with. I benefited by getting my first het clown female. Disadvantage was when my animal was with someone else, breeding control was out of my hands. Introduction was too late.

I'm in the middle of one - and we had a very clearly defined contract that we both signed. My female went to them, and they were (and are still - as she's staying another season) for her feeding and any vet care that she requires. He did notice during her QT with him that she was slightly wheezing and the vet was amazed that he even picked that up - that she was in the very beginning stages of an RI, that the vet attributed to stress from being re-located to a new home. He said that he would not have even picked up on the RI without the swab.

Since then, he has been in constant contact with me, with photos and weekly updates. She's laid her eggs, I've already picked my animals and we're drawing up a contract for this coming season.

We even have the replacement value of my animal listed and the amount of time he has to pay me that if she were to die in his care.

I've been happy with this loan, but it's not something I'd do with just anyone - but I'd definitely use the same contract with all the details for any future loans.

I really don't have any interest in them.. I guess there are just too many variables for me to feel comfortable.

Back when I had a lot of snakes I tried 3 breeding loans. Here's how they went in a nutshell:

I loaned a male dumerils boa to what I thought was a decent guy and someone I had known for several years. Never saw snake or guy again. Numerous phone calls, phone disconnected, etc.

I loaned a weird looking female common boa, which in hindsight must have been some kinda locality specific thing but I didnt know that at the time, to a person who had a very similar looking boa. We did the whole thing, paperwork and everything. Kept in contact for a while. Then that stopped. Then the persons mother was sick, car broke down, dog died, house caught on fire, all sorts of reasons why he couldnt return calls or just give me my snake back. Lost the snake again.

The final time I was offered a a female double het burm to breed to my male. At the time albinos, greens and albino/greens were big tickets. When the snake arrived it was horrible. Completely emaciated, covered in mites, just a mess. I told the guy I cant take that thing. He proceeds to scream, yell, curse me out, tell me that I screwed up his season, blah blah blah.

I dont have snakes any more but if I did I wouldnt do a loan. I have lizards now which are rarely if ever loaned since they dont adapt as well as snakes but I wouldnt take or loan a lizard either. Just not worth it in my book and me previous experiences have soured me on it.
