What's the smallest and youngest male you've had produce for you? I produced this little group Bumble Bee in 07 - Keep a 1.1 and and had the male breeding in 4 months at around 385 - 400 grams...He bred 3 girls and I got 2 clutchs from him this year...Each clutch had a Bee...

Wow, congrats on that paring. I have not bred a male smaller than 600 or so grams. I probably will this season though...

LOL, I have a pied male that is in the same boat. I am planning on waiting until about February to see if he is producing sperm, then possibly trying him on my het pied female...

You have to be careful with the little ones...The key is to keep them eating as much as you can thru breeding season...Mine usually eat up until mid Jan pretty strong...Once mid Feb - Beginning of March hits - They stop eating all together...I have two 08 males that I have plans for this year - I feed both every 3 days like clockwork...Both are around 400 grams - Both hatched in Aug...I won't try either till after Christmas unless it's just plain ol obvious that their horned up and ready to go...

I tried my 07 pastel last year. He was 397g when I started pairing him up with 2 females. I didnt hatch one pastel. One of the females was with one other male one time. I did get eggs from her. Same with the other female. 2 clutches 11 eggs total not one pastel. If my Mojave female gets about 300g's bigger I might try my 08 Mojave male hes at about 250 now. Im thinking January or February I might try them and see what happens.

3 month old 250g male pastel. Bred 3 girls and gave me 2 cluthes. 8 eggs 7 pastels 1 normal and 6 eggs 4 normals and 2 pastels. Youngest female was 11 months old and 1200g at the start of breeding season. Got 3 eggs that year, 8 the following year, 9 last year. And who knows how many this year? So much for the young girls to continue haveing "crappy clutches when you breed them to young" Thats a bunch of BULL#$@&#$@&#$@&#$@&!!

I've two males that were from eggs laid in Feb07..I only need one of them to hit mom a few times so she can ovulate on her schedule..She's begging for it!..Tail all pitched up and hugging on him/them..but nooo they would rather curl up and act gay...figures.

It might be combat time! :SAMHAIN:

First year breeding and my 07 male super pastel is over 500G. He was eating like a champ taking anything and everything I threw at him up until a couple weeks ago. The female I have for him is still eating so I'm not sure what to do. If he's off feed now I am thinking I should pair him up sooner rather than later assuming he will stay off feed. If I can get him breeding and my female spider to take... the sooner he'll get back on feed? Any suggestions??

To be honest, I think the small younger males caused my lack of fertility this last season, the girls were of age and size, and were seen copulating, just didn't go...

My cinny male was just over a year old and 400 grams, he got it done at least! All those young males are now 700-800 grams, and should breed anything I throw them at...

Put them together...I would imagine he stopped eating for a reason...My females always eat good at least half way thru the season...They usually don't stop till about a month before they ovulate...Nov and Dec they hammer food...I try and get a meal in my young males every other week during the season - Some eat some don't...Breeding season is long - If your male has pretty good weight on him I wouldn't sweat it...If he wants to breed - He ain't gonna want to eat...

Thanks BT. I figured he stopped eating for a reason but wasn't sure whether or not I should put him in with my spider because shes still eating. I didnt want her to stop eating because was breeding her. I've been doing three days on and a week off for my breeding pairs so I think I am going to put him in tonight and see what happens. Shes over 1600G so I know shes ready. We'll see what happens. Thanks again.

No problem brother...I bet she's still eat - I look at as the girls know they need to pack on some weight for the eggs their gonna produce...A clutch of eggs takes a toll on a female...Good luck and keep us updated...
