View Full Version : Opinions on Calico's
DanielA989 01-28-2009, 07:34 PM I noticed alot of combos are starting to pop up with calico's. I know when they first come in alot of people said they would be nothing. What is your take on them? Do you like them/ dislike them? Which line do you like the best? Is anyone working with them... etc. etc.

Daniel
Tosha 01-28-2009, 07:42 PM I'm not yet impressed by them -- it took me a while to come to love the pied as well -- I'm sure it will come -- just not that impressed yet.
LadyOhh 01-28-2009, 07:44 PM Calicos... are interesting. Not my favorite, but I still want one (like every other morph out there...).
Eventually, but not in my top 10.
m00kfu 01-28-2009, 07:46 PM I think they're great! I was going to pick one up at Tinley this past year but didn't see any that really caught my eye. I like whichever line Dan Wolfe is working with. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's the Fauna and Flora line?
ScubaTim 01-28-2009, 07:46 PM calicos on the average side don't impress me at all, but some of the higher white calicos look absolutely stunning. RD has some bad ass cals!

I think it is Flora and Fauna, but yes..

Well at least I got the words right. :p

Sputnik 01-28-2009, 08:16 PM I like the combos!
I dont find them attractive except for the hint of red/pink pigment and even then I am thinking...how can I keep that pigment and loose the rest of the color and or pattern....I think its an optical illusion....until someone proves me wrong .
Toni
Melanie 01-28-2009, 08:41 PM I don't like Calicos.
BUT Some of the Calico combos are AMAZING. I could see buying em just to plug em into other things...
jayefbe 01-28-2009, 09:00 PM I can't say I'm a fan of calicos or sugars, and that includes their combos. There are so many morphs out there that do amazing things, I figure I can start getting picky.
grunt_11b2007 01-28-2009, 09:02 PM I like them.. Especially the combos!! The calico lesser is smokin.. And the calider is pretty impressive too..

jknudson 01-28-2009, 09:08 PM I prefer sugars to calicos, they generally are more extreme looking, both standalone and as combos.
JChandler 01-28-2009, 09:11 PM I like them on their own and in the combos:rockon:
NoahHart 01-28-2009, 09:15 PM I totally agree with Jason. I prefer Sugar lines to Calico lines. The Valentine line seems to be the best looking of the ones I have seen. There are some stellar looking Calico's over here in our neck of the woods though too. I cant wait to get some.
Chris 01-28-2009, 09:50 PM The Calico gene is something im working with right now as we speak. Valentines line is the best, but when it comes to getting a calico here in our own backyard I would say Flora & faunas line is the best all hands down. The male that created the super came out of the same clutch as my male from Morton Wright. Im just hoping a particular "female" will go for me in Feb;)
Heres the super out of the egg:

Chris 01-28-2009, 09:51 PM I just recently visited Morton and this super is looking AWESOME:rockon:
NoahHart 01-28-2009, 09:54 PM The Valentine line is a Sugar (if indeed they are different). I have said all along I'm not convinced that is a super. Time will tell I guess. I don't know what line Jon at Next World Exotics is working with but he has some kick a$$ Calico's.

Yeah right on one thing. All the calicos that are made are probably all the same, kind of like pastels. But I personally think Valentines line just seperates itself from all other lines. Just look at this pic from Pete:

John at Nextworld works with TSK line, or the RDR, and nerd line. That line there tends to shoot a huge amount of white onto Bps, where as the flora & fauna line shoots a low amount of white with a huge amount of orange and blushes.
Example of Flora & faunas line: Property of Dan wolfe of dwherp.com

NoahHart 01-28-2009, 10:28 PM It may be true that they are all the same like Pastels but no one knows that for sure yet. I much prefer the high white myself but to each his own. Also Dan Sutherland when he was on RR said he didn't think that snake Morton hatched was a super. It will be interesting to see what happens with Calico's/Sugar's this year and the next couple years. Cant wait to see some more combos.
FloridaHogs 01-28-2009, 10:43 PM Do love that one of Pete's, but in general....ehh...they are OK

Honestly when I first seen the pics I said the same thing. "I dont think thats a super". But when I seen it in person that snake had me believing it must be the super, or the Bubblegum ralph used to own.
Your absolutely right, only time will tell if it really is a super if someone else produces one. I think the sutherlands this year will end all rumors if the calico really is Co-dom, Like Morton says he has, or just another dominant gene. They almost had it last year, but there female only delivered a few eggs and a bunch went bad.
NoahHart 01-28-2009, 10:47 PM That's got to be heart breaking to lose eggs like that, especially when your trying to prove something out. It would be nice to see some updated pics of Morton's animal.

I have updated pics but out of respect to Morton I told him I'll keep them for my own personal use. The top pics are pics he originally posted.
Boy I cant wait until my girls start dropping those eggs.
FloridaHogs 01-28-2009, 11:08 PM Could you maybe ask him if it would be ok to post them? If not I understand.

Uh ohs! I hope the picture police doesnt see this thread. Forget whatever I said:)
FloridaHogs 01-28-2009, 11:15 PM Nah, I understand being respectful of someone elses stuff, just wondered if he might let you post it.
Chris 01-28-2009, 11:16 PM I'll give him a call tommorow afternoon. Thanks for understanding.
Jaymz 01-29-2009, 01:05 AM I dig'em
Danny 01-29-2009, 04:52 AM I like them, I do prefer Sugars to some Calicos though. They just look more extreme in general. But there are also some Calicos that look really sugary to me like that one pictured above owned by P. Kahl.
This is a long shot but does anyone have the contact details for Rene Valentine?
