OK, the boards are 49" x 16 1/4. That is the size they came, so no cutting was necessary.

I routered a quater inch groove on each end, as you can see below, and painted the boards before assembly (so much easier to paint before).

I basically put the rack together upside down, attaching the top first to 1x 3.

Alot of people place the tubs between each shelf to get the right measurement. I have found that the weight of the shelf tends to bow the tub out a bit causing that shelves to be a bit uneven. I use four pieces of 2x4 cut very precisely to the desired shelf height. Just more consistant for me.

Once it is all put together, I add the back braces and touch up any paint. Three braces in the back to provent tub slide through, and one additional one on the 15 qt side. I use the scrap pieces from the "legs" as additional braces on the sides.

I leave the rack elevated off of the floor, and use underneath to store tub lids.

This is a very finctional shelf, able to hold 41, 28, and 15 qt tubs.

Here is a close up of the heat cable

On the ends with the 15 qt, I routered two channels for flexability. I just move the heat cable depending on which tub I have there.

Last thing I do is attach screen swivel clips to lock in each tub.

And wala......finished rack.

Would be easier to do with flexwatt. I was just not comfortable with wiring stuff my self. So you know, I am a girl and did this with no help (just to encourage those that might be intimidated):wamma:

Thanks, Jenea! Now, if I can convert the boss to tubs instead of display caging, I'll be golden...:yourock: :master:

Good point; she has her heart set on building a corner/split cage with a divider to introduce animals, 4(h)x 3(f)x 1.5 (sides).

Great job, nothing like custom home made racks to save you a dollar or two and finish with a good feeling of accomplishment to boot!

Hey Jenea, forgot to ask what kind of wood are you using for the shelves? Is it just MDF? Also what kind of paint is that?

mdf for the shelves and the braces are something other than pine...it was smooth because I didn't want to sand it...probably popler.

Paint is simple latex paint...I figure if it is kid safe, and I can still wash my walls, then it would do. I put about 3 layers on to make sure the shelves were sealed well. Oh, and satin finish...I do not like the shiny stuff.
