Ever since I got into this hobby/business what has always amazed me is the fact that some breeders has such attitudes.

Do you really think I am going to buy your snake from you for $xxxxx with an attitude like that?

Talk about bad business sense....

Talk about rudeness....

OLOL

Movin onto the next one....

Can you tell I've been shopping for my next addition?

Your animals had better be made of gold if you have bad people skills.

Damn man sorry to hear about the bad experience..I remember when BT was shopping for his pin in 07' it was unreal. He contacted a handful of breeders only to get hit and miss replies. Some really well know breeders too.

Ask him about it sometime..

When I'm shopping around I generally start out with e-mails, ask the normal questions like what's their weight? What are they feeding on? etc., and more often than not I get a response along the lines of "this is how I accept payment, give me your zip and I'll get a shipping quote". I mean, I know that there a ton of window shoppers out there, but if you can't answer some simple straight forward questions I'm going to move on.

Wannabe superstars?

I've run into a few like that, even if the snakes aren't big money...

On the flipside there are some great people to deal with... I keep them in mind and try to do repeat business first before anything else.

Can I also point out that courtesy goes both ways. As one not dependent on any income from reptiles, I'm inclined to get a little PO'ed when I get some variation on the following inquiry....

"Yo, I wanna get that snake you have listed. I can pay (insert 1/10th of asking price), so let me know when you can ship" - mr no name.

My major peeve.
-anyone who can't be bothered to introduce themselves or sign their name (Oh is that you, mrhurricane2000?) Spare me. If you can't take 2 seconds to say, "Hi, my name is" or sign your damn email "Thanks, Joe", I can't take you seriously.

- also people who send me emails in illiterate code. "Do U hav NE spdrs lft?" No, I don't. And you would be better served spending that money on an english class at the local community college.

But, of course, that's what I like about being smalltime. I get to be a picky seller.

Your just a meanie.... No wonder you never answered my emails.....

Yeah, I can understand both sides of the coin.... my feeling is, treat people how you want to be treated. Not easy to do at times when you get something stupid or rude in your inbox, but I do remind myself of that from time to time.... even if it isn't returned, at which point I can end the inquiry right there if need be.

I had a similar experience with a VERY BIG BREEDER. I've bought over $20,000 worth of snakes from this guy. I was recently corresponding back and forth with him about some ball pythons I wanted from him. It was almost $10,000 worth of snakes I was going to be buying. I was looking for a couple very particular animals. He said he had them. So I asked for a picture of a certain one, he responded by telling me he didn't have time to take any pics. One of the animals I wanted was a female pied with an all white body and a colored head. He said he had one,but I wanted to be sure she was EXACTLY what I wanted. She is the only snake I asked for a pic of. So needless to say I didn't buy anything from him, and never will again.

Customer service is a must. After getting burned badly several years ago, I prefer to do everything by email. No phone. This way everything is documented, and if a problem arises there is no he said she said junk.

I would like to make a comment on this thread. A lot of sellers have good attitudes, some don't. But keep in mind some potential buyers have bad attitudes as well. Both sides sometimes put money in front of good business. Some people get e-mails basically demanding that they sell an animal for what is being offered, regardless of the selling price. And may answer back with a flat "no" and then the buyer say's the seller is rude. Unfortunately your "tone" cannot be conveyed in text. I have replied with a very simple "no thanks" on numerous occasions. It was not meant with hostility althougt it may have been taken that way. This is just my take on this and sometimes the fault can be on either side.
Thanks
Bruce Delles c/o Twin Cities Reptiles
(Now remove the word "thanks" and the above post sounds a little rude)

I have walked away from deals just for about every reason, hell even have told people to bug off when I have gotten emails like Kat said....

People do things differently and I give them some lead way but even if it is a hobby you still need to have some professionalism in your actions, 9 times out of 10 that first animal will lead to many more, I am a big believer in personal recommendations and repeat business whenever possible.

Word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Reputations are hard to build, but easy to tear down.

Exactly! You have to treat people with respect. Sometimes you have to take a deep breath and bear with it, but treat them nicely.

I think if your trying to sell something and you have a business the customer is always right! No matter what they email looks like or what the tone is in there voice, the buyer is not paying me for my opinion he is paying me for a service. If You have a business it only pays to act professional. No matter how the buyer acts its not professional to act just as him. Ill be damned if I spend a grand or more with someone I don't even know so they could act nonprofessional!!

I dont agree with this entirely. Yes, you should always be professional.... when the customer turns into an idiot, I cut them off. I wont be disrespected by anyone, paying customer or not. I dont depend on this as an income either and can be picky about who my animals go to. If you are rude to me, dont expect a response or if you do get one, it will be in the same tone. I have deleted numerous emails for exactly the reasons listed above and dont feel bad about it at all.

Yes the customer is always right, but because we are talking about living creatures, I reserve the right to refuse a sale.

There is nothing wrong with refusing service to someone disrespectful, thing is if the buyer turns to an idiot doesn't mean you have to. I remember long ago(one of my first jobs)at a temporary job I had a coworker who told me even if your here for a sec put your 100% in the job be professional.
It didn't hit me what he was saying till a little while later, what he said in so many words is other people are paying attention to how you do your job so give it you 110% act professional. If you half ass any job that you set out to do it only reflects your dedication to the job.
