OK, I've got a BCI that is approximately 7 years old. He shed yesterday and I usually measure and weigh my critters at this time. He measures 9' 11" currently. My question is............Can an apparently adult boa put on 23 inches in six months time? He sheds every two months and three sheds ago he was 8 feet long. Freaked my arse out. Thanks for any insight.

I would try a different tape measure....

Really no idea but that sounds like alot to me...

Sounds like a pretty big growth spurt for a 7 year old boa?

If I recall correctly that snake was gianormous before the growth spurt - must be something in the water ;)

Tosha, he was eight feet long like forever. Now all of a sudden, in six months time he's almost ten http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff315/QuigsPlace/dontknow.gif. I'm going to remeasure him today and hope I was hallucinating, but we'll see.

Hey Quig, what locality is this guy? A 10' male is huge! I had a 9' columbian and I thought she was a beast. That does sound like a huge growth spurt for a 7 yr old snake, but I've learned with these animals almost anything is possible.

He/she was given to me as a male BCI. Been askin' around and a couple people think it may well be a Suri or a Suri cross. I'm contemplating probing it but not sure I can tackle it alone . HATES it's tail being touched.

OK, just took a measurement with a cloth tape. He's considerably smaller than He was using the SnakeMeasurer. Totals out at 100 inches so that's 8' 4". I knew he didn't look like he'd grown that much yesterday. I still think I'll probe him sooner or later though, just to be sure.

That sounds a little more likely. The new measurement.

Probe him. Wanna borrow my crowbar?

:D

Actually at that size you could probably tell visually. Still not a bad idea to probe though. To be sure.

I'm still inclined to believe he's a male, but I'm gonna probe him to be certain. I just need to corner somebody and convince them to hang onto the other end for me :lmao:

Damn, there went our freak growth spurt. He's still a big boy. Y'all have fun probing him. :)
