IMHO - Pieds & Albinos, oldies but goldies!

Larry don't you know you're not supposed to use the "I" word in ball pythons anymore. ;)

The only ones I haven't seen really tank have been the Pied and the Clown -- we'll see how Champagnes do next year.

Champagnes have already tanked...Albinos, Pieds and Clowns - Gotta love the recessives...If you ain't fast with the Codoms/Doms - Your gonna take a bath...

I agree. Pieds have to be up there. They have so much going for them. They are very dramatic looking to avg everyday Joe plumber..lol They don’t eat which makes them a little more difficult to mass produce. Recessive combo potential is limitless.

If you're looking at it from a business standpoint, and wow factor to most non-herp people.. I'd say pieds, albinos and BELs. They all have that WOW factor, and regardless of how low they go, they'll always sell.

I personally think that the pied is the ULTIMATE morph... next would have to be the Albino... and even though they have come down in price so dramatically over the years a nice super high quality pastel/Super Pastel will always be a perfect addition to anybody's collection! (IMO)

I agree super pastels are way underrated. I'd give anything to have a couple adult female supers in the rack..:)

I've got 1 right now , but wish I had a few more. I've got a few males that I'd love to breed to a super female.

I dont think their is a ball morph out there that you will not make your money back on and more as long as it breeds! I have NEVER looked at a animal as a investment! It is a living, breathing, animal and not a stock..........

Yes I agree these are living and breathing animals. I have a passion as strong as anyone when it comes to the animals but in order for me to continue to work with these animals and possibly even on a full time level at some point, I must run my operation with a business aspect in mind.

If I make good business decisions then I’m able to work even more with the animals and less my regular job which I have far less passion for. That being said, I do look at my animals and animals I may buy as potential investments.

My dream is to some day be able to work with the animal as a full time job. That’s a dream because I love to work with these living breathing animals but in order to accomplish that dream I will have to make smart investments along the way.

I see where you are coming from, but I do look at all of my animals as investments. (except for my first ball python that I still have and will never breed) This does not mean that I do not care for them properly, or do not love them. I love snakes, thats why I got into this hobby.

When I say investment if I was going to invest money it would not be on a living animal! Too many variables to go wrong! I dont mean if you do that you dont take care of them, but stop and think of all the possibilities. I just look at this as a hobby gone wild!

It's a hobby for me as well, while I'm playing on the net or shootin the breeze with other breeders.

Come April when I turn those invoices over to the accountant and pony up the dollars to ol' G-man it's all business...

All of the recessives will hold their value for quite some time. Albinos have been around for quite a while, and they still command a price higher than alot of the dom/codoms. The price on alot of the recessives will come down as more are available, but the fact that you can't produce as many as a dom/codom will always keep their supply lower than the other morphs.

The Lav Albino's probably wouldn't be the best investment right now, as the price is bound to decrease somewhat in the next couple years, but it's alot better investment than the champagnes. If I was going to buy some morphs for future investments, I'd go with Clowns, Pieds, Albinos, axanthic combos, caramels, and a lav if I could afford one. I also think the woma, lesser and the spotnose will throw some combos that will hold some value for a while, too.

I belive its the morphs that you can spot from a far...Such as Pieds and albino's....They will always sell...In my opinion you needed to pick up a champaign this year for it to be an investment per say. as you have the best oppertunity to "cash in"...Right now the best investment to me is the banana.
