View Full Version : Big Green O
k-arbogast 02-17-2009, 05:51 PM Well my girl "Killer" has been gettin' pretty thick lately and I knew it was just about time for her to ovulate. I was pretty psyched when I checked on her last night and found her blowin' up. I couldn't get any photos last night but I took some this morning and it was hard to get a good angle so it may not look that impressive from the photos, but trust me in person this girl is swollen.
This is from early evening last night. She was so big I felt confident she was going soon.

This morning in the midst of her ovulation it almost looks like the fat has been sucked from the front two thirds and the tail area right to the sweet spot!

Jaymz 02-18-2009, 12:34 AM I like how the male is still hanging out, "Baby your not fat you are beautiful, now maybe you should move your tail a little closer."

Gator 02-19-2009, 12:28 AM All right, Kevin! :wamma: Ignorant question time-they do leave the perch to drop the clutch and incubate, right?
Larry 02-19-2009, 12:42 AM Awesome Kevin looking forward to seeing that clutch.. Good looking pair brother..
k-arbogast 02-19-2009, 11:48 AM Thanks everyone and I will keep you all updated on the progress.
All right, Kevin! :wamma: Ignorant question time-they do leave the perch to drop the clutch and incubate, right?
They should leave the perch to drop the clutch, but sometimes if not given the right nest box they will lay from their perch resulting in the destruction of the clutch. Last year in an effort to avoid this I took the precaution of removing her perch about two weeks after her pre-lay shed.
Aonaen 02-19-2009, 12:48 PM Very cool. good luck

CK, I don't think I want to push my luck with wish for all that at once.....LMAO. Seriously though getting good eggs, successful hatching, and then maybe the hardest part getting them started are all part of the nerve wracking proccess of breeding Chondros. With that being said and even after last years dissapointment, I really love the challenge involved.
A big thanks to all my fellow Bush Leaguers for thier support. I really hope this is the year that I get to work some red and yellow tree worms!
